This has been circling "the interwebs" on various mediums now, so might as well start a MP thread!

The post was first made on FT, quickly edited of any real content, but was saved for posterity by the ever useful and informative TravelingBetter: LINK.

Quite an eyeful there, some of which is clearly a bit off and others much more likely or even confirmed in some way shape or form.

I bet some folks will be curious to see what the AM brings....

As someone who is on a challenge right now for EXP, I'll definitely be watching. I am VERY eager to learn what comes out of the American/US Air talk. If it's going to be watered down to US Air standards, I'll just go back to United (as much as I don't want to).

A JetBlue codeshare/alliance, whatever, doesn't excite me. I don't see any big upgrades to their routes/overall network unless AA reduces service there and JetBlue takes over via some alliance.

Better coverage within the west coast and better international destinations (including Canada) would get me excited for AA.

As noted on the linked thread, one should probably keep the stated venue in mind when considering some of these items. I doubt that a conference for travel agents is the ideal location to announce a good number of these rumored items.

So announcements on the potential US merger and inevitable rebranding are likely not going to happen.

On a separate (from speculating on what may or may not emerge in the AM) but related note, I'd personally welcome a stronger B6 tie-up with an opportunity to earn EQM easier on some of their flights. Increased international destinations is certainly a very welcome change, something I've wanted for awhile. While we all have our own travel needs, I really can't think of anything LESS exciting than new routes to Canada. I'd even take yet another route to NRT or LHR to be honest. :)

You think a tie-up with Iran Air Tours is unlikely? ;)

We've been over this before, I'm all for an Iran Tours link-up! ;)

Seriously though, I cannot for the life of me ever get that code right.

Well, I'm certainly looking forward to seeing what comes out of that; that being said, I have to agree with Destination David. That particular venue doesn't really seem like the place where some of these rumors would be put forth in a accurate manner.

    David,

In hindsight and seeing the thread title in "what's new", do you think just maybe you could have picked a better thread title?

This title could describe just about any FT thread in any forum. :)

This thread title seems like it's a perfect headline for The Onion ...

Breaking news: Massive Speculative Thread on FT.

OT, but what is the story behind the TravelingBetter forums?
It lists: Members: 219,619, Active Members: 17,360
That should make it much more lively than MP. However, in most of the forums, the most recent posts are one to three years old, the home page says "Copyright © 2007-2009" so that hasn't been updated in three years, and the most recent blog item is dated 1 Nov 2009.

Most of the active participants at TB are AA enthusiasts. It is the authoritative go-to place for AA-related news and insights: you'd notice that the AA forum http://www.travelingbetter.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=30 is up to the minute. They discuss not only AA, the real thing, but also FT/MP speculations relating to AA! Probably it would have been best to conceptualize the forum as TrAAvelingBetter.com and simply dispense with the rest. :)

Of course, it would have been difficult to foresee such inactivity in other forums which, I imagine, were and continue to be offered for completeness' sake.

Well, it is almost 3PM in NYC and we are curious. Are they planning to announce during midnight cocktails? :)

That's it - government ownership stake so it really will be American Airlines. :)

Maybe that's where he'll make the announcement - give Jon Stewart the scoop.

Oh, of course the NY location should be noted, hence the thought it could be JB-related.

Routed to Canada are not exciting in general, but I fly there a lot, and it would help me. Personally, I have NO idea why AA doesn't fly to Edmonton when there are a lot of oil folks heading from Alberta to Texas. If you have ever traveled in F on UA before out of those cities, you know what I mean.

Lots of news today but nothing along the lines of what was rumored (as always).

Eagle is still expected to be spun off, hiring 1,500 flight attendants next year, Boeing disputing the claims about the AA Dreamliner delay, and the earnings showed a loss but still better than expected.

    Nothing magical. Yet.

Most of that was known prior to today though. I think we all know this is a dud. Not to say we don't know some of the stuff on the list is coming/true, but it's not making a splashy debut today.

And that's the beauty of unsubstantiated rumors, even when they come from supposedly reliable inside sources. If they come true you're some sort of savant, and if not well then they were just rumors. :)
