Marriott's management agreement for the Ko'olina Ihilani hotel will expire on 12/31. The hotel will close shortly thereafter for extensive remodeling. Although no formal announcement has been made, there is strong evidence that the resort will re-open under the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts brand.

Four Seasons currently manages the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Kaupulehu on the Big Island, the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay and the Four Seasons Resort Lanai-- The Lodge at Koelea. Marriott will continue to operate its Ko'olina Beach Club, just down the road.

A sad footnote to this story; 513 people will lose their jobs as a result of this change. They will be allowed to apply for openings at other Marriott properties in Hawaii and there will be a job fair that will include the new employer but there will be no continuation of employment or preservation of seniority.

That's awful for the employees involved, would be nice the employer would find a better solution than let the people "pay".

Good Riddens ! Wonderful rooms, but smallest pool of any major property in the entire state. The main "negative" is it immediately adjacent to the new Disney resort. With the public small inlet beaches and the area easily accessible to the neighboring cities (i. e. Pearl) it is more crowded than Grand Central Station.

You can no longer make reservations at the Ihilani via the Marriott web site. You will need to call the hotel directly at (808) 679-0079.
