Although I can see the benefit of merged threads, I think having a separate SPG thread isn't a bad idea either, to have members of each individual program contributing.

    Previously known, but still relevant...

"Starwood shareholders will separately receive consideration from the spin-off of the Starwood timeshare business and subsequent merger with Interval Leisure Group, which has an estimated value of approximately $1.3 billion to Starwood shareholders or approximately $7.80 per Starwood share, based on the 20-day VWAP of Interval Leisure Group stock ending November 13, 2015. The timeshare transaction should close prior to the Marriott-Starwood merger closing."

There are pros and cons, indeed. Obviously, on FT there are busy threads in both places. With the amount of traffic we have seen here on IF, I am not sure it would be beneficial to fragment the audience any further than it already is (after all, there will presumably be threads on the various European IF sites as well).

Interesting to see how will this play out between Chase MR and RC Visa and AmEx SPG.

I can't help it if people post stuff in the wrong place! Seems like news of Starwood being purchased ought to be in the Starwood forum, no?

I really only check a couple of forums and threads here that are relevant to me...

Easiest way to keep up for me is to check http://insideflyer.com/forums/find-new/posts

The forums structure really serves little purpose to me at the moment.

Trying to see the positive in this development as an SPG loyalist, but its just not happening. In retrospect, I think I'd rather seen the Wyndham tie up happen instead. At least then I think the SPG Rewards program may have had a chance of surviving. And I'm really going to miss SPG Moments....what an innovative, cool, and reasonable use of points.

Horrible news (got an email from SPG this morning). I hope they keep running the programs separately, as I have no interest in the Marriott loyalty progarm.

This may be my last time to requalify for SPG Plat :(

Hope all you want...that's not going to happen.

I expect we'll see a new, merged program by 2017.

Agree. We SPG elites will have to get used to a tier name drop, Plats to Golds, Golds to Silvers. Except for Plat+s who will remain Plat in the MR program. Not sure that MR will introduce stays to the nights count for status which will impact many SPG elites like myself who tend towards the stay count. Lifetime will also have to be adjusted down a tier, though not sure how MR will handle the points count qualification measure.

Of course, we can speculate all we want but I suspect most SPG elites will be disappointed though my experience with MR Gold through the UA benefits "match" has been positive. I just want to remain in a tier that gets lounge access (and breakfast).

    Que sera, sera.

Yeah. "I wish I was a Marriott elite instead." Said no SPG elite ever.

This is no good. I just joined 2 years ago and started enjoying the benefits to get this news.

I started in SPG in 2014.
Really liked them and the Delta Crossover was great.
    Guess this will disappear.
Uber just lost a big marketing partner / driver.

The big question now is do I still try and get the last six stays I need for Plat next year. Starting to lean towards no.

I'm actually quite sad about this. How ridiculous is that?

If you have any stays happening in 2016 you should. The merger isn't going to close until mid-2016 and unlikely that loyalty will merge much before 2017.

One of the best benefits of the SPG program was the ability to transfer points into just about any airline program with a 25% bonus for 20k .. great for topping off to redeem awards.

I would bet any money that that benefit will be eliminated:rolleyes:.

Why would they hide it in a chat forum? Since those are essentially content-free, I never check them.

There's a reason threads have titles

When the only active conversation happens to be in those threads then that's where the discussion will happen. Such is life.

I can't disagree with you, Seth, but it doesn't seem promising for the future of the site, particularly if we're interested in drawing folks here.

If a visitor can't find his way around, or can't find the information or discussion he's looking for, he probably won't be back.

I don't have any stays planned yet. For me, SPG is something I was willing to spend a bit of time and money on to keep my Platinum status (I guess it was really working as a profit-expanding strategy for them).

I've had some incredible trips through SPG in the last few years (patio suite at Iguas, suite at Turnberry, suite in Buenos Aires, suite in New York). Made for some unforgettable trips with my wife and cemented my loyalty (and affection) to SPG.

Was hoping to go back for our next big anniversary, but that won't be for another few years and I get the feeling all those suite upgrades won't be around next time round.

For me the key to my enjoyment of the program was the ability, when I really wanted to, to get these upgrades to amazing rooms. It was worth the hassle and expense of making Plat every year.

Now I guess it isn't. Sunk costs being worth what they are, I won't bother with the six extra stays and will cancel my two SPG Amex cards.

It's been really fun but time to move on, methinks. Goodbye SPG :(

I've managed to hit Marriott/SPG Platinum both this year, with LT Gold in SPG. I've been SPG Plat for 3 years now, and was MR Gold in the prior two years.

Interesting to see how they treat me when SPG/MR find out I've been cheating on them!

My guess is everything will be fine, just more rooms.

Our convention contracts were with SPG this year, last year Hilton, we have had some great stays,

My bet is the airline perks stay also, this is a competitive business, stay positive
