Not sure it's just in the Middle East. I saw a press release on a dif site that mentioned other locations.

    Cheers.

They do offer free in-room internet in Asian countries for ALL MR members, not just elites; started that back in '11.

    Cheers.

Thanks, that's what I have known, but they still don't offer free in-room internet without being an elite in other continents to my knowledge, it's time they roll this scheme out on a worldwide basis.

Yes in the Asia Pacific Region - I guess Australia and NZ are included too?

It will be pretty awesome if they do - but I really doubt that since there are still people willing to pay for the internet, and I don't recall any other international chain offer internet for free in ALL their hotels.

Marriott doesn't have any properties in New Zealand, but yes Australia is included.

The USA Today article said they're not at that stage yet. End of article.

    Cheers.

Why not worldwide free internet access? Too costly?

Presumably costs would actually go down as a much simpler system can be used if it is not required to perform billing. I think the main reason for not introducing worldwide free internet access is that internet is a huge incremental revenue generator for hotels with a very high margin.
