    Good Morning All,

I havent heard any news regarding Marriott status matches or elite challenes recently, so I thought I would contact them and ask. Last I heard Marriott discontinued this practice. However, the response I received made me pleasantly surprised:

Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards.

On behalf of Marriott Rewards Guest Services, please allow me to extend the offer of a Gold Elite Status challenge. If you accept this offer, your account status would be upgraded to Gold Elite after the following terms have been met.

In order to achieve this status, you must accumulate six separate paid stays beginning with the date your account is registered for the offer, through September 30, 2014. This is a one-time offer, and would be effective within three business days of your acceptance of this offer.

Once you have accumulated six separate paid stays, your account status would be upgraded to Gold Elite through January 2016. To retain this status for all of 2016, you would need to accrue the qualifying number of Elite nights during 2015. The Silver Elite level requires 10 Elite nights, the Gold Elite level requires 50 Elite nights, and the Platinum Elite level requires 75 Elite nights.

Should you be unable to accumulate six separate paid stays during this trial period, your account would remain at your current status, and you would need to stay the normal night requirements to achieve this Gold Elite level.

A "hotel stay" or "stay" means all consecutive nights a Marriott Rewards member registers and personally pays and stays at any participating hotel. For example, one or multiple consecutive nights stayed in one hotel qualifies as one paid stay.

To be eligible for this offer, each stay would need to be individually booked in the name on your account, you must check into the hotel, and you need to pay the hotel directly for the stay. You are not eligible to earn credit for stays in another name (even that of a friend or family member), stays booked as part of a group or package, or stays booked and paid through a third party.

This information is visible by clicking on the following link for the Marriott Rewards online terms and conditions.
    http://marriott.com/rewards/terms/earning.mi

Incidental credit, redemption stays, timeshare owner stays during a designated owner week, stays in ExecuStay, and stays Marriott Executive Apartment properties do not earn credit toward this offer. Also, Elite nights that appear as non-stay nights in your account do not qualify for this offer.

Please reply to this email if you would like to accept this offer, and I will register your account.

Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance and for making Marriott your preferred hotel chain.

Where did you send the request? Because I just did a request and got the we don't match any status, on June 30th.

Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards Guest Services regarding our Elite levels.

Marriott Rewards would like to apologize that it does not offer status matching with the recognition levels provided by competitor programs.

The primary reason for this is that Marriott's Elite status levels are not achieved at the same thresholds of activity as the recognition levels of other programs. Because of this, the recognition levels between the programs literally cannot be matched to each other.

Marriott Rewards members need to reach 10 nights for the Silver level, 50 nights for the Gold level, or 75 nights for the Platinum level.

To achieve any Elite level, members must stay the required number of nights in a calendar year, January 1 to December 31.

Please visit the following link for additional information concerning Elite membership:

    Thank you for choosing Marriott.

I too had zero Marriott nights this calender year and only 7 last year. I sent them a copy of my IHG statement showing status and 84 nights so far this year. I also explained that due a job change I would have the opportunity to stay at Marriott now. I also had 4 reservations for upcoming Marriott stays, which I just cancelled since they don't want my business. SPG offered me a challenge so I booked with them instead.

maybe they're not interested in IHG customers?

I showed 65 nights in 2014 as RA

however I did not cancel my upcoming Marriott bookings YET and SPG has just burned me too many times

I agree about SPG (just had unworthy stay in Boston) but I won't give the Marriott the satisfaction.

when did you write in ?

From what i've read previously, Marriott had stopped the Taste of Gold or Taste of Platinum status challenge, so if it's very recently that you wrote in, someone at Marriott really likes you, or the customer service staff who replied may perhaps not been updated for some reason (?)

and the Marriott customer service staff is right, the threshold for Platinum attainment with Marriott is really not comparable to other top tier, it's a lot harder to achieve (at least in Asia where there's no Marriott credit card) ;)

I accepted the challenge and it was effective starting June 30th. I think i originally wrote in on June 26th or so. It was very recent.

I am adorable, so maybe that helped? ;)

i was surprised though. I was visiting Alpharetta, and am going to this week also, and I knew that there were a cluster of nice Marriott properties very close together, so i thought what the hell, why not email and ask... I dont usually mind hotel hopping when im by myself, and I drove this trip, so I just had my bookbag and my carry on bag, so its nothing for me just to check out in the AM and check in the next place that night.

I asked about a challenge just yesterday and got shot down. They suggested that I complete 10 nights to hit Silver and then try the challenge to gold.

Hmm, sounds like one needs at least to be a Silver for them to consider you for a challenge ?

That makes sense. I think Marriott will only bump you up one step. And they want to ensure you are going to spend money with them i guess. I have been silver for the past 3 years. This is the first time I have requested a challenge/status match.
