This thread is for listing of good Malbecs found outside of Argentina... maybe we can include mail order bottles as well. I'll try to update this main post with an ongoing list. Gaucho is not allowed to scoff at our inevitably sub-par selections.

My local wine merchant in California (K&L) always has a good selection of Malbecs for sale at reasonable prices. For example, they have 46 Malbecs currently in stock. K&L have retails outlets on the San Francisco peninsula and Hollywood, and also offer shipping to selected US states and various countries.

He can't in many cases because some of the stuff is export-only :D

I like some of the Malbec blends better than pure Malbec. For a mid-price offering I like Achával Ferrer Quimera (Malbec/Cabernet/Merlot blend).

Actually.... as you know from being in my shop, I do get just about anything thats made here, including many export only labels. However, some of the stuff like white label or private labels I will not have access to. In any event, these labels are not interesting for visitors as you can get them at home for less money than you would have to pay in Buenos Aires.....

The Latitude collection can be found at some places... I believe World Market had the 34. Decent lower end Malbec for a cheap price.

Latitude 33...??? That is one of the lower end LVMH wines, below their Terrazas Altos del Plata labels. Its made by Chandon Argentina rather than Terrazas de los Andes, same ownership but different winery.

Some budget Malbecs with decent US distribution include:

    Alto las Hormigas Malbec
    Terrazas Altos del Plata Malbec
    Alamos Malbec
    Crios Malbec
    El Felino Malbec
    Clos de los Siete
    Zolo Malbec

I had never had Malbec until a couple of years ago and now it is my favorite wine. Thanks for creating this thread!

    US distribution I see.

Any year you'd recommend over another on this one? You have a good handle on my tastes.

Spotty... but it should be available in a couple of states. Not sure about the tri-state area.

No worries... jesting aside, Im here to assist folks with finding wines directly in the US, even though I wont get that business. I do this all the time and get a nice amount of word of mouth referrals from folks that is more than fair compensation for the assistance that I can give them.

Fire away with any questions please.....

    @Gaucho

I've been to EZE about 8 times now so I know the city pretty well yet to have visit your vino shop. ;)

What are your thoughts about mid-tier Malbecs such as Lucia Bodega Malbec?

Luigi Bosca makes good wine, although its style is not one of my favorites. Depending on what your definition of mid-tier is (and in what currency you define the price range), there are many other options that I think deliver consistently better quality. When is your next trip down to EZE....? Please let me know and we should arrange to meet and talk vino....

    cheers,
    Alex / Gaucho100K
