This is helpful for me. Ithink there has been past speculation about QF/MH merger/alliance...looks like a step to be closer but not together?

MH is a good airline, and KUL a very convenient hub. Good news for OneWorld.

Any idea on the lead time for booking awards? Or knowing which codes we need to use to earn into AA?

Seeing as most of my travel is within Asia and across Australia, this makes things very convenient for me. Plus I like Kuala Lumpur (the airport AND the city) and can see myself enjoying many a stop over sipping Teh Tarik.

Finally a decent choice to go to MLE in business class.

Just wondering if anyone has any info about expected joining dates. I know the press releases all say late 2012. Does anyone think that they may have joined by the end of July 2012... just thinking about my flights to CPT next year...

Sad to lose an opportunity to use DL miles for interesting trips.

Well you never know. You might still be able to do it. AF is a SkyTeam member but JAL still keeps it as a partner

If this goes through, would anything happen to codeshare agreements they have with members of other alliances such as TK 8000/8001?

One can't be sure, but the best guess would be that such codeshare agreements will end. Agreements with airlines that don't belong to an alliance, such as Alaska or some of the MidEast carriers, are more likely to continue. Also, arrangements that don't compete with new alliance partners are more likely to continue.

Interestingly lots of speculation that there'll be a stock swap deal between MH and Air Asia tomorrow, basically MH is in poor financial shape and Asia Asia has been eating their lunch, this is seen as a bit of a savior effort to bring in private investment and some management shakeups. Of course an ailing MH has been good for Air Asia so it's apparently been a complicated dance and suppose it could still fall apart.

Has anyone tried booking awards on MH via KUL in order to get to MLE. Looks like MH runs a nonstop KUL-MLE.

Since MH isn't in OW yet, most people in this forum wouldn't have experience with it. You'd have to track someone down who has MH miles.

Yes, but the partnership with SQ ended quite quickly, despite it being one of the very first airline partnerships.

Or DL miles or FlyingBlue miles, since MH does have existing partners. I've booked an MH award with DL miles, and it all went very smoothly. Wasn't on KUL-MLE, however.

Has anyone else heard anything about MH aligning fare classes with OW carriers? I have a DL-ticketed business class award with MH flights that changed from I to U class recently. DL agents are insisting that U is a coach revenue bucket, but Google suggests most OW carriers use U for business awards and MH is no longer selling tickets in U according to ExpertFlyer.
