10 categories is ridiculous... it's like they're all competing with each other to see who can have more categories for rewards...

Either way, I like that they throw in a bone with the 5th night free, but it doesn't change the fact that you're bound to see hotels moved around and cost more points for reward nights, probably a lot more. And the seasonal pricing is just bad all around, because that means during high season a hotel will basically "jump" categories by costing more points.

I suppose it was inevitable that we'd see such drastic changes across the board... there are A LOT of elites out there, but more importantly it's become almost ridiculously easy to rack up the points with credit card sign ups and miscellaneous spend. It was only a matter of time before they all figured that they should make it harder for people to spend the points -- especially in aspirational properties.

Woah, those are some massive changes. An increase by 2x with some premium resorts/times. Although 120k for a 5-day stay at Hilton Waikoloa seems fair.

Yeah but while you have some places like the Maldives holding steady at 95k a night, they move some properties like Paris La Defense from 60k to 80k in May and September. That's a massive jump any way you look at it.

It does seem however that the increases (at least the one I have seen/or for the properties that interest me) are mostly for peak times usually one or two months a year, even though the property catagory might have changed.
it might be interesting to see how this pans out paying the increased points for peak time might
be better than the increased awards we current see when no standard awards are available

Exception Conrad Tokyo now minimum 80k:)

I wonder how this will effect the AXON and GLON redemption rates.

If GLON is still offered, you have a 5 night stay, could work out to be very lucrative for many hotels.

I bet GLON and AXON are being discontinued.

That will make the Hilton AMEX less valuable and Citi Hilton cards more attractive.

The AXON is an Amex product I suspect/expect them to retain it but at adjusted redemption levels (as they did previously when similar changes were made)
GLON I have the feeling are being replaced by the new 5th night free award which is technically a return to the original GLON which if memory serves was was only a five night.award.

    Well...that happened.

I don't think it's a deal breaker, but it is dissapointing. I agree that this makes Citi Hilton cards much more attractive. And that's not a bad thing. The new challenge now becomes: how do you rack up the points outside of transfers, promotions, and churns?

More importantly: Are the global points (UR/MR) potentially now more valuable?

Well you could stay at a Hilton Hotel:)

I am willing to bet the AXON stays in a modified form.

AND before we all go off the deep end (ala the current threads on Flyertalk) I have found at least three hotels in Europe which have increased in catagory but have lower points required for redemption than currently for all but a few high season months.

    Make that five hotels.

That's good. Properties where one would actually want to stay and redeem, I hope?

Some popular ones which I am a bit surprised havent gone up:
    So far six.
    Hilton Prague
    Hilton Prague Old Town
    Hilton Budapest
    Hilton Budapest- Westend
    Hilton Sorrento
    HGI Claridge Rome

I have stayed at all except the Rome property and would highly recommend them all.

    Add Hilton Dubovnik

Well two thumbs down from me, 95K/night is just crazy, even if you are earning them faster than the competition.

The one example important to me right now (the 3 Hiltons in Vienna, AT) has things as the same in low seasons as it is now year-round and all higher by 10k in the higher seasons. Unfortunately for me, the higher months include December, when I'll be there. I guess I need to book something before then if I want to use HHonors points.

Gatlinburg, TN has some interesting seasonal fluctuations.

Meant to say that the Gatlinburg hotels appear to be either the same as current or 10k points lower.

The the changes have just been announced, is it perhaps not too soon to know for sure which properties would or would change significantly?
