I made plans to travel in J class with an overnight layover in MAD. I wonder if anyone has experienced the new One World VIP lounges there.
Specifically I saw that "Sala Velazquez" is open 24 hours a day, and has "Relaxation Rooms", showers, and all the usual good stuff. Are those relaxation rooms intended to let passengers crash there for a few hours? I don't expect it would be comfortable enough or appropriate to use the lounge as a hotel room for the whole night, but would still love to hear any first-hand experiences what it's like there.
    Thanks!

The Velazquez in the satellite T4 is one of my favorite lounges in the whole Oneworld family. The relaxation room is a dark room with about 6 sort of...beach chairs, maybe? I don't see why you couldn't spend ~4hrs in there.

Check first, though, the staff may not be comfortable if you go in with a boarding pass with a departure date 15+ hrs later. Not sure about that.

I did exactly that when my connecting flight was cancelled. There are hotels easily available and the metro gets you to them quickly but I was tired and lazy so I just camped there for roughly 16 hours. The relaxation room has semi-chaise lounges similar to those at CDG AF lounges but in a quieter location. I slept well, had a shower and felt fine. I do like MAD and the lounges very well. Easy place to transfer.

Agree that the lounges are great; however if you want a nearby hotel with shuttle service, we can recommend the Clement Barajas highly.

My partner and I visited the Velazquez lounge a few times recently, including a couple of long connections ~5-6 hours. We didn't try the relaxation room, but did stretch out on sofas, and enjoyed the buffet (great gazpacho). The wireless requires a code and only works for 30 minutes at a stretch, but there are wired Ethernet connections at the back that just work. We wanted to try the restaurant, but it was way too smokey both times, even though the host insisted it was non-smoking (we figured the staff smoked).

I love good gazpacho! Suprised they tolerated smoking inside the restaurant.

The host insisted it was non-smoking, so I assume they wouldn't tolerate smoking by patrons :)

We figured either the staff were smoking in the kitchen, or maybe there is an open door to a smoking area.

Haha, I always associate gazpacho with that scene! Early Almodovar is great.

No, the feet are in the air :) -- the ankles are on the couch.
