I have had success finding LH F seats within their 2 week date of travel release. Is it the same with LX? I see the seat I want on Expert Flyer but the UA representative cannot see it.

The flight is LX 8 ZRH-ORD. When I search on .bomb, this flight doesn't even show up. The UA representative did offer C but I'd really rather have F. Is this Expert Flyer F phantom availability?

    Thanks

Try to put it on phone order hold and work that into your itinerary!

Huh?? You lost me - thanks. I see other F availability on LH but I've never flown LX so I'd like to give it a try

LX releases F seats 96 to 48 hrs before departure. So they are much harder to find.

LX inventory on ExpertFlyer is based on what M&M members get, not partners. Don't be surprised if UA or others cannot see it. You can try to cross-reference it with ANA or Aeroplan to confirm availability. I'm guessing it isn't there for partners.

Thanks all. I just can't risk waiting with C when there is F available - I just found F availability on the LH 748 FRA-IAD and will look to book that flight. I am connecting from VIE and either ZRH or FRA works to get me home.

    Thanks all

For future reference, if you're seeing the flight online but the agent cant, all you have to do it go through with the order till the payment page and then click the link that says "Phone Order"

After that, you'll get a confirmation number you can feed to the agent. He'll be able to tell you if its possible. Most of the time it isn't but it's worked for me sometimes!

LX 8 wasn't showing on .bomb and that is why I called UA. In my case, the agent saw the flight and the C availability, but not the F seat I found on Expert Flyer.

    Cheers

LX F availability has dropped a lot. It used to be good on YUL-ZRH and ZRH-Asia (HKG, BOM, DEL, PEK, NRT, BKK). Not so anymore. Every newer TR I see of LX F is from M&M members who redeemed or upgraded from C. It's a shame, since routes like ZRH-BOM and ZRH-DEL sometimes go empty 0/8 seats in F.

Probably reserved for LX's own members.

Technically couldn't you book it in C & then 96hrs before if F is available call in & change the class?

Yes. Assuming the seat became available. I saw F on the 748 and jumped on it instead. As a 1K I can check again and see what there is at 96H but I am thinking that the 748 is going to be just fine :D

Not really. F award inventory has dropped dramatically as have discounted "A" fares.

Yes, really. The inventory shown on EF is based on what M&M members can book, not partners.

I miss the good old days when you could almost guarantee some seats opening up 3 days out :(

I personally blame all the award booking travel consultants, aka Lucky. They have ruined the game for everyone.

Wow that is an incredibly selfish comment.

Ehh, I understand the gripe, but it affects so few people I can't believe it's true.

I think it'd be truer to blame the huge credit card sign-up bonuses.

I don't get it. If the flights are going out 0/8, that is EMPTY in first class it is hard to believe it is anyone's fault except the airliner for not releasing seats.

Not all airlines release all seats for awards. Some of them actually prefer to sell the seats or let them fly empty. Emirates and Singapore come to mind as a couple examples.

If you always (or very often) have last-minute F awards available the motivation for some to buy the seats may diminish.

And as strange as this sounds to most of us, this is exactly what a LX manager stated to me when I talked with him about 6 months ago. There business model is a little different here in Switzerland in several areas, and this is just one of them. And, they do have a large degree of freedom (not 100%) from parent company LH.

To only that, but LX J is actually a really nice product, way better than LH's.

Agree 100% on that one (will, until they change all their J to lie flat, which I think will be another 3-4 years). LH really missed with their "slip-n-slide" J seats. And double shame when they got their new A380 and still went with their poor seats.

    Agreed.
Is there even a timetable to install new seats on the A380 yet in business?
