Lufthansa to retrofit entire intercontinental fleet by 2015:cool:

Director of Network Planning for Lufthansa, Tamur Goudarzi-Pour outlined the German carrier’s fleet development and strategy plans for the next four years to Business Traveller during an informal briefing at Munich airport, with the standardisation of its on board product and the procurement of next generation aircraft the clear driving force.

Lufthansa has recently announced that it will take part in the Star Alliance long-haul economy seat programme in association with B/E Aerospace (see online news 04/10/11).

The joint procurement initiative will give all Star Alliance members the option to purchase a standardised base for their long-haul economy seats. Air China, Austrian and Lufthansa will be the first Star carriers to fit the product to their long-haul fleets from 2012, with Lufthansa set to retrofit its A330 and A340-600s initially.

Thanks uggboy for posting. I am curious about the "Star Alliance long-haul economy seat programme" as if it is anything similar to the NEK debacle it will drive some business away from Lufthansa.

Thanks for the update, it was good to know. I flew in J on a couple of their 744s in August and they were quite tired, definitely in need of a refresh.

Well at least they've made an effort :)

I will be on their A343s next month, which I haven't been before, will be interesting to see if they're as tired as the 744s.

Well the one thing to say for LH is consistency. The business product on longhaul is identical on every aircraft including the A380 at the moment.

Interesting that they choose 2015...isn't that when the F retrofits are supposed to be completed?

True! Which isn't always the case with many airlines.

I know of the OS 777s..... flown on a couple, also on Lauda Air's 777 way back... wasnt sure about LH though. Must be one thorn in the side of Boeing that they would not have at least a few... what about the 787..???

LH is the launch customer for the 748 so Boeing probably isn't too unhappy. They are a pretty big customer of the 737 and the 747 as well.
