The union representing the Flight attendants did not order them to walk off their jobs today, however they will hold temporary work stoppages on short notice. This is similar to what happened when Germany airport ground workers went on strike earlier this year.

Let's hope the issue is resolved fast and fair. [ the fair bit remains questionable...]

    Strikes today in FRA.

Strike action by the Independent Flight Attendants Organization (UFO) on Friday, 31 August 2012, between 5 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Frankfurt airport

The Independent Flight Attendants Organization (UFO) has called cabin crews to strike action for Friday, 31 August 2012, from 05.00 hrs to 13.00 hrs (German local time) at Frankfurt (FRA) airport.

Lufthansa sincerely regrets that the labor dispute is being waged at the expense of its customers. The fact that UFO announces strike actions only at short notice creates additional problems for passengers because it will further limit their ability to make reliable travel plans.

The call to strike action forces Lufthansa to cancel a majority of flights from and to Frankfurt. Subject to cancellation are mostly short- and medium-haul flights. Nevertheless, a small number of long-haul flights will have to be cancelled as well even though they have utmost priority and, wherever possible, shall operate. In general, delays must be anticipated throughout the day.

Even after the end of the strike, Lufthansa foresees irregularities in flight operations from and to Frankfurt.

Lufthansa Regional and Germanwings flights are not affected.

I changed to an earlier SAS flight out of Heathrow and LH allowed free replacement even before the full list of cancelled flights was announced. It was a good call, as one of the strips at Heathrow was closed in the morning, so my flights on LH would not have made the next connection anyway.

Another 2 flights on Sunday, will see how that works :)

If it happens on my flight in 2 weeks, I'll make sure to get them to fly me on LX instead via ZRH. :D

Tomorrow (Friday 7 September)Germany wide strike 00:00-23:59. Apparently willl cancel ~2/3 of all Lufthansa mainline flights. If you have a flight tomorrow get on the phone to your TA or Lufthansa or issuing carrier of ticket now and see what reprotection is available or delay the trip.

I guess this counts as good for now

"Lufthansa and UFO signed a preliminary agreement over mediation. Starting on Saturday, 8 September 2012 there will no longer be any strikes until an arbiter's ruling."

I can't get over any company having to deal with UFO... And yet government can't admit they exist!

There won't be an EURO after then anyway so they will need to rewrite all the agreements as it is ;)

no, its not but negotiations were fairly contentious, so any deal I think at this point is a good one.
