Lufthansa has five flights per week GIG-FRA now, but announced in December raising to six per week. Now yesterday Lufthansa announced they are studying an increase to daily flights in November because the results have been "higher than we expected" with an average 90% load factor so far.
LH only began the flights to GIG last October.

Excellent news. With the growth in general of demand for flying to Brazil this trend will probably continue.

I am certain of that. Some of the A380 operators, led by EK as seeking improvements that will let them fly A380 to GRU and possibly elsewhere. Shortly we'll probably begin to hear much more about the DL/G3 plans for BSB too.

If GRU could handle it properly I wouldn't be at all surprised in the future to see LH upgauging GRU/FRA to A388.

They are one of the airlines that have been discussing this with authorities, I am told. Others allegedly talking in addition to EK and LH are AF( they apparently have discussed both GRU and GIG) and KE (ICN-LAX-GRU with 772 today). Only EK has made public statements. All of the others are probably likely to happen in 2014 if the airports are ready, and may include both GRU and GIG. It does not require genius to guess that these flights, if they do at all, may happen during the World Cup and Olympics and may not end out being permanent flights. Who knows?
