After seeing the number of questions that come up in this forum (and others) about FlyNet and in-flight Internet in general, I worked with Lufthansa to prepare a FAQ (which we will update whenever possible).

    The FAQ is online here.

If there are other questions you think should be added, please let me know.

In the meantime, I hope this is somewhat helpful as it (as of yesterday) has the very latest information about equipment types and other FlyNet issues.

Some of it is very basic (remember, a lot of people don't know anything about the service), but there are some questions which people here will find interesting as well, e.g.

The FAQ doesn't say it is available on 744s. And 744s are not yet equipped. If you look at the "what aircraft" question, you'll see the schedule which I don't recall off the top of my head).

I know the 744's and even the 380's weren't on line yet. I think mostly the 330's and 340's are online. I'll know for sure next month. Flying a 330 out and 340 back.....

The 380s aren't even scheduled for a retrofit yet (this is also in the FAQ). 25% of the long-haul fleet has FlyNet, however, and all routes mentioned are covered.

no. Flynet is strictly transalantic (northern routes to continental US). LH is currently researching moving it to continental europe but nothing for south america as yet. Its not necessarily aircraft availability. Its the lack of satellite transmission for routes to South AMerica

only a handful of 744's are equipped with flynet, so odds are against you finding flynet. Best bet is routes flown by A330's since almost all are retrofitted.

Too bad flynet won't be available on their frankfurt - seoul or shanghai flights. Wonder why flynet is limited to north atlantic routes.
