Booked an award for a couple of friends (and milepoint members) yesterday morning. IAD-FRA-ZRH-BKK-DPS-BKK-FRA-EWR-IAD in LH F and TG F.

The LH F segments are IAD-FRA and FRA-EWR. And it's late April/early May.

So I pull up the seat map for the flights and it's 4 rows of 2 seats upstairs on the 747.

Does this actually suggest the new first class? Or is LH only assigning 2 seats regardless of configuration at this point?

I guess it would have just surprised me that they'd get 2 first class awards on 747s with the new first configuration so early in the retrofit (not to mention be able to grab awards on them..)

Anyone know about the 747 seat maps at present? Thanks!

All LH 747 seatmaps should show only 8 F seats in a 1-1 configuration starting on a certain date in April. LH is blocking the window seats if the flight isn't configured with the new product, so your friends might have 4 F seats to themselves!

They may be extremely lucky and get new F seats but it's more likely that your friends will simply get the existing F seat each with the window seat blocked. LH are only selling 8 F seats on the 744 after 21st April or so.

How many 747's are due for refurbishing....? Aren't LH starting the refurbishments with the 330's/340's ? And the new F isn't the same as on the A380 is it , because of weight-issues ?

    10.
    Yes, but slowly.
AFAIK more or less on 330s/340s but not on 747s.

Speaking of the new configuration, does anyone know what the procedure will be if it's the old seats with the window seats blocked? Will the window seats be permanently in bed mode? Or can you choose to sit in either seat (i.e. if you like to look out of the window)?

I asked about this yesterday- and the pursers were not sure yet what is going to happen, however there was a suggestion there will be a small mattress for the window seat- in which case it may be permanently in bed mode. Again, just rumour at this point. I think one large point is that it is seriously going to cut F availability except for full fare (i.e. not "A" fares)- which will make F quite expensive for many frequent travellers currently (i.e. I will fly "A" fares, but very rarely "F").

That would s*ck. I am one of those hopeless romantics who thinks a window is still the best form of IFE! [IMG]

I have a flight to BKK booked on the 21st of April still with 16 F seats.
On the 22nd it goes to 8 seats. I guess I can celebrate/grieve - should my upgrade clear on the 21st ...

I booked the same outbound route on an award ticket (IAD-FRA-ZRH on LH F, ZRH-BKK-DPS on TG F). Just curious: did you choose FRA-ZRH-BKK instead of FRA-BKK in order to let your friends use the FCT? Or was it for availability?

You'd better not choose a window seat in case it turns into a pumpkin at midnight!

In my understanding, if the routing is FRA(LX/LH)ZRH(TG)BKK, there is no FCT access, just like with FRA(TG)BKK. You'd only get access in the case of FRA(LX/LH)ZRH(LX)BKK - must have LX/LH First Class segment same day.
