    Good Day:

Just wanted to report I was able to book in 2012 a Mileage Plus Reward round trip ticket from San Francisco to Frankfurt in First Class on the Lufthansa A380 using United Airlines Miles. I am 1K with UA but hold no status whatsoever with Lufthansa.

Great news. Have a very nice trip. SFO/FRA is one of the longer flights in the LH system- so having the space and service of F really does make a difference.

    Good Day:

I booked each A380 flight independently. I scored the one way to Frankfurt from San Francisco the first time I called.

It took a little more time and patience to score the return from Frankfurt to San Francisco.

The A380 flights were only showing business and economy. This morning when I called, First Class was available on the day I was looking for.

Although it is 11 months out I am very pleased and looking forward to the experience.

Did those show up on the UA website? When I booked my LH F award trip to Rome last month I booked on line.

I thought 380 F awards were being blocked for non LH FFs. Was this a short term thing? Or was this booking a fluke?

Conratulations to the op. Sounds likes a great award redemption!

    Good day:

When I talked to the United Airlines agent who booked the first leg of my trip on the A380 I shared the fact I had heard First Class Award could not be redeemed . She told me no to believe everything I heard or read...I quote.

    Good Day:
I called the United Airlines 1K international desk. I did not even try to look on line because I secure the over the water segment first an then adjust the departing and arriving cities.

Apparently, LH forgot to zero out O class on several A380 flights in April/May next year.

So, as long as you do not need to rebook your award to a different date, you have some options to snag an A380 first class award seat like 11-12 months out right now, without being HON or SEN.

Not reward, but RTW. I found easy access to preferred dates booking a *A RTW in August using LH A380 F. My last trip, in january, there was zero availability. It seems there si much better availability for awards also now as the fleet is growing. With seven A380's the demand is probably becoming a little less heavy for each premium seat.

RTW Revenue F should be OK- as long as "A" class is open you can book right away. I actually haven't seen any restrictions on this as of yet.

When I last tried there was never "A". It is only recently that there has been consistent "A" availability IME. Has it been easy for soem time?

I think yes- however not really sure as I only check when I need a flight- in which case I have consistently seen A open.

I saw this, too. I'm wondering, though, if this isn't necessarily a mistake. Maybe LH just wants to block out space in first for a year or so until it can gauge demand or give first dibs to its own members. April is way out at the edge of what we can even book right now. Maybe first awards will continue to be available beyond April.

Let us all hope that LH does open F to *A awards. Without them, an F award is almost impossible to book.

I am looking for award tickets (coach) from Germany (FRA, MUC) to US for August 2011. For the first two weeks of August - nothing is available. Continental/ANA search show 0 (zero) availability on ANY route to US on LH/CO/UA. What happened? Major *net blocking or what?

Well, you're looking in the peak travel season less than four months away. Maybe more seats will open up closer in.

Unfortunately for you, August is a real peak time for award travel transatlantic- I would look for a revenue ticket as a backup. Economy awards are not usually a great deal anyway on LH as the fuel surcharges/fees are ~50% of a purchased ticket price. You can check also Austrian (OS) or Swiss (LX) or SAS (SK) and route through either VIE or ZRH or CPH/ARN- sometimes there is availability that way- or of course AC via YYZ/YUL/YYC/YVR to LHR/FRA/CDG/CPH/ZRH/MUC/FCO/ATH/BCN?

SFO is also serviced by 747 in the winter of 2012. A380 only comes back later in the year.

I spoke to an LH representative about this as I'm looking for SFO-FRA in December. They said the "definitive" schedule has not been loaded and to look for it in a couple of months.

    Trust me ...
Dec 2011 through Mar 2012 will see the 747 in SFO.
JFK also got pulled and the A380 will serve SIN in the meantime.

Scheduled Service for the A388 is only in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. Winter services will be served by 744 aircrafts.
