The loyalty industry is very exciting and there are always new ways to earn awards and use them for things you love to do and buy! Hawaiian Airlines is heading Down Under! The airline will launch a new route between Honolulu and Auckland, New Zealand in March and it will also be starting service to Brisbane, Australia this November. Hawaiian Airlines will be the only US carrier to offer flights to Auckland, and the airline will be flying to the destination three times a week. In addition, the airline will be increasing the number of flights to Seoul, Korea by providing daily service instead of the current four flights a week. Hobbit mania has gripped New Zealand, and Air New Zealand plans on launching two Boeing 777 aircrafts that are Hobbit themed. The setting of Tolkein’s stories was created and filmed in New Zealand for its natural scenery. Passengers flying between Wellington and the UK or US have a chance of being on a Hobbit-themed flight. The official launch date had not been confirmed but the airline is planning on creating a Hobbit themed in-flight safety video, as well as having flight attendants dressed in Hobbit-themed uniforms. LivingSocial has launched a competitor to Groupon’s Goods business. LivingSocial Shop will sell discounted merchandise deals that are tied to a theme. LivingSocial has been testing product sales for several weeks in Cincinnati and were able to generate $39,000 in revenue, which shows the potential growth the product sales business has for daily deal companies like LivingSocial. Never let another deal expire! Safeway’s new loyalty program, Just for U is now available across all US divisions and will help drive positive sales for the company through the rest of the year. The program provides digital coupons, personalized deals, and specials on groceries you buy the most. The program is also available on the android and Iphone mobile devices so that members can look at deals and coupons on the go. Kellogg has introduced a new consumer-loyalty program known as Kellogg’s Family Rewards. By joining the free program, members can log onto a website to register and enter codes found inside Kellogg product packages. By entering in the codes, members can then be eligible to earn a variety of rewards as well as a daily chance to win $200 in free groceries. Members can also receive promotions, coupons, and bonus point deals for Kellogg products by signing up. Accor hotels is expanding in the Southern hemisphere. The company has agreed to buy hotels in South America for $275 million. Europe’s largest hotel group will be strengthening its presence in the region with the purchase that includes 15 hotels in Brazil, Argentina and Chile as well as 14 hotels under management contract and two brands operated by Grupo Posadas, Ceasar Park and Ceasar Business. Le Club members will soon have more choices to use and earn hotel points with the expansion in this growing region of the world. Most of the summer promotions have come to an end but not for Wyndham Rewards. The hotel loyalty program is offering travelers a chance to earn four times the rewards points when they book two or more stays online at participating hotels. Members will be able to redeem the extra points for free hotel nights, gift cards, brand name merchandise or tickets to popular shows, concerts or sporting events. All members need to to do is register for the promotion and they then have until September 13 to earn bonus points with a second qualifying stay. Hyatt hotels is becoming a bit more kid friendly by introducing a new children’s menu with the help of nearly a dozen kids ages 5 to 12. The new menu is low fat and involves healthy twists on kid-friendly favorites. This move is all part of the larger trend of hotels trying to appeal to teenage and pre-teen guests, “You’re attracting the kids so the kids can tell their friends and they plug the parents, and the parents foot the bill,” says Jan Freitag, a senior vice president at hotel industry tracker STR. Youtube is also getting into the loyalty program business! The company announced that they would be soon launching a Partners Rewards Program for any partner that surpasses 1 million subscribers. Those who do receive over 1 million subscribers will receive a gold plated play button, a gift card for equipment upgrades and a customer LSR camera case.
