This week in loyalty program news we see new programs launched from Michaels, Scott and Carnival Cruise Lines, new reward opportunities available from United Airlines and Royal Jordanian, as well as a glimpse of what future inflight entertainment may look like. The summer may be winding down, but loyalty programs are offering a lot of great things to look forward to in the coming months! Redeeming your miles for rewards is about to get much better! United Airlines is adding a digital download music store to its MileagePlus program. This will allow members to redeem their miles for music. The music store will feature 7 million tracks and will offer movies, television programs, books and video games. The store is run by Choose Digital that will allow other frequent buyer clubs and customer loyalty programs to offer music to their members as well. The car rental company Hertz and Royal Jordanian have entered into a partnership that will offer preferential rates and rewards to members of the airline’s frequent flyer program, Royal Plus. Members of Royal Plus can immediately take advantage of best available rates on car rental across the airline’s international network which includes 59 destinations and earn 500 miles for every booking. When members book a luxury car brand then they can earn up to 1000 miles. Could this be the future of in-flight entertainment? Virgin Australia are rolling out Samsung Galaxy tablets for in-flight entertainment across its domestic and short-haul international network. Initially, the tablets will come preloaded with a range of movies, TV programs and music but the airline plans to move to a wireless streaming system for those with their own devices. Michaels has launched a new digital loyalty campaign to drive holiday shopping. The Make Your Joy campaign offers incentives for customers to interact with holiday themed products and tutorials. The program is designed to allow shoppers to create and manage holiday to-do lists, sync their calendars to in-store events, view and share crafting projects and receive rewards for every action they finish. Rewards include Michaels gift cards, home cleaning services, complimentary salon services and a grand prize trip to Mexico. Scott, the brand of paper products is launching a new loyalty program called Scott Shared Values to win consumers over to the brand. The program will involve television and digital ads along with social media elements. The program will allow users to sign up for coupons and rewards such as Blockbuster rentals, Hertz discounts and discounts on Scott products. By signing members are rewarded with a $.75 sign-up coupon and and can receive even more coupons by just referring friends to the program. Carnival Cruise Lines is offering their guests perks for a fee joining the ranks of airlines and hotels with its Faster to the Fun program. For $49.95 per cabin, passengers will receive a series of benefits that are usually available to elite members of Carnival Cruise Lines’ loyalty program. Benefits include access to fast-track embarkation, priority dinner seating, express guest services access and priority tendering. The program will be tested on Carnival Imagination starting August 20 and on Carnival Liberty starting August 25. Expansion depends on how these trials perform. Would you pay for these elite benefits? Have you enjoyed the Olympics beach volleyball tournament? If so, you may want to check out the Hilton HHonors Beach Volleyball Challenge at Hilton Hawaiian Village on Waikiki Beach on October 20. The challenge will have the top women’s and men’s beach volleyball players from Team USA and Team China competing like April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings.
