Departing from where? Currently in my home market of DC there are sub-$400 LIM fares and they're eligible for complimentary upgrades for UA/CO elites.

    Welcome to MP.

To answer this question, we need to know your home airport (and any other airports you can use). Also, since $1K is in the range of international tickets, do you have a US, EU, etc. Passport? (Visa and passport fees can be expensive and it might not be possible to acquire a new passport and visas quickly.)

    Welcome to MP!
Wanderlust and VVanderlust, a little confusing

I haven't tried this tool myself yet, so can't really vouch for it, but try putting in type of MR, SFO as airport and *A as alliance into mileagebrain.com. Maybe that could be a place to start, just to get a little overview of potential airlines, price range, mileage earnings and destinations.. it arranges results after lowest cents-per-mile..

There are also decent fares from SFO to LIM, but Lima fares require a 3 day minimum. If you managed to book a nested run (like SFO-LIM, then LIM-MIA-LIM, then complete LIM-SFO), there would be dead time in between.

Do you want a mileage run, or what MileageBrain calls a Mileage jog (with 1-3 days somewhere)?

If you want a pure run, you might look at fares to New York and Miami. Internationally, the summer season is not so good. Maybe for October there would be fares to Seoul, or Singapore,

Today there's IAD-HNL-IAD for ~ $538 through end of schedule, though June/July/August is about $100 higher.

Surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but for $1,000, you can do several SFO-JFK PS runs. Or combine the lovely $350 SFO-HNL fare with a SFO-JFK, doing SFO-HNL (2 night minimum), HNL-SFO-JFK-SFO, about 13K miles somewhere south of $800ish.

    It is!

You could fly to HNL three times for a little over $1000 with the current UA/CO fares, as others have mentioned. Availability best from September onwards.

Thanks for the tips. ( I "tricked" wanderlust to vvanderlust - we both must suffer from the same affliction). Have been contemplating this special fare to Tokyo...going to call the TA's listed to see if UA is available and IF fare bucket is MP earning:

    Would like to support Japan.

Since you fly from SFO, don't forget the super easy summer UA/CO DEQM to/from ORD from SFO &/or LAX promo for CA & IL residents. For me, it has biggest bang for $$ & Time, because for under $1000 you can easily get 3/4 RT flts, for at least 22K, all same day turns & quite easy; usually all done in under 12 hrs. Lots of discussion over on the other site: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unit...219446-double-eqm-if-fly-ord-lax-ord-sfo.html
