I was reading up on the different levels of elite for PC; and then noticed you can upgrade to Ambassador for IC. So I guess my question is ... if you get the PC Visa (Gives you PC Plt) do you not get the PC Plat benifits at IC ?

    Example:
    Room Upgrades
    Late Check Out

Also ... if you book nights using awards I've read you don't get elite benefits ... are those ALL benifits or some? Like for example if I book a room using points at an IC or HI can i still get Late Checkout?

I believe Ambassador gets you PC gold, but the PC benefits (from Plat, etc) don't flow the other direction (meaning, no benefits at IC). Someone feel free to correct me.

The IC's only officially recognize the Ambassador program. If you are a regular Ambassador, it does make you Gold as well. If you are a Royal Ambassador it makes you Plat. It is all one way..... ie ambassador carries status over to HI but nothing from HI toward IC. You need to pay and join the Ambassador program to get status. Although IC's were running Ambassador status after 3 or 4 stays if you signed up for the Promotion. I dont know if it is still running.
You still get late check out on reward stays, IF that is the status you have with a given program.

It really depends on the hotel your staying at. I suggest reading reviews on here for any IC hotel your interested in. Some hotels honor some benefits, like late checkout, internet, and upgrades but other's do not. Benefits like free mini bar and free movie, will not be honored for reward stays. And as others have mentioned PC platinum will get you nothing at an IC, you need to join Ambassador for IC benefits.

The big stuff only kicks in at royal....

Hilton and Starwood are better for plats and less frequent stayers.

Location and price dominate my hotel choices, but I compare holiday stays against ra benefits.

Next stops - New Orleans, the Willard, New Orleans, park lane....

I've had some success in minor upgrades at IC's as a Platinum and Ambassador but nothing major. I think it helps to call the Ambassador number after you make the reservation or reward reservation for a chance at it. Royal Ambassador is what counts. Ambassador status doesn't seem to mean anything to run of the mill HI or HIX type locations in my experience.

I just stayed on a paid night at the Intercontinental ORD and got upgraded to jr suite, fresh fruit, bag of gourmet popcorn, free Internet (which is VERY expensive at this hotel) and a free movie so not bad. If I was royal I could had enjoyed those $7 beers in the minibar for free.

My wife doesn't like Amstel or Heineken so she ordered two Miller Lights from room service. Ended up being $20.90 so I guess the mini bar is cheap compared to room service :) Besides who doesn't like an $8 Kit Kat?

IC ORD is a great property and really good at recognizing status. In fact, when I stay in Chicago I deliberately choose to give this property my business and train it into town because we're treated so well (and usually it's on a stupid cheap rate as well).

I am PC Platinum and have no status with Ambassador. Yet when I stayed at IC San Francisco using points, I got a higher floor, late check out and my Internet charge waived for being platinum. There is no obligation for them to do these things, but they treated me very well. It's an excellent property and the staff were falling over themselves to give good service. I ordered pizza from a local chain, and they courtesy called me to make sure it was okay that I be disturbed, then had security escort the pizza guy in and out of the building to make sure he didn't kill me or go anywhere other than my room!

It is true some properties do give benefits to the other program (PC / IC). Let's hope this spreads! ;)

Never be afraid to ask. In my experience most staff members would rather do something nice for you than be confrontational. It's no skin off their nose if they put you in a higher room, or give you an hour or two extension on a check out. And the nicer the hotel the more they are used to dealing with higher end customers who expect higher levels of service.

Be nice, likable, polite, treat them with respect and you'd be surprised. But also be realistic, they only have so much flexibility.

  15. True enough but it doesn't work the other way. Many HI's and HIx's could care less about RA status. They only understand platinum as the highest level. That has upgrade implications at times when properties are almost full.

Well I broke down and burned some PC pts on Ambassador status....Honestly I don't know when I'll ever get to an IC, but my status addiction is soothed for a couple months :)

Reading through all of this info in MP, I have a supplementary question: When checking in at an IC, it sounds like I should just hand over my PC PLAT, IC AMB, & PC VISA, and see what sticks??? :)

Also, do IC promotions come out similar to PC promos....I'm sure not to the same frequency, but does anyone know if they even exist, and would they post under the same "my offers" section of the PC screen?

    Thanks,

    MO

i just walk up and say hello, to the response welcome back mr Z, here are your keys.... if it is someone new they may wish to see the credit card and id. I would note, that normally about a week out, my reservations are modified to an upgraded room type. So most of the decision making on your room upgrade has already been made before you arrive. same thing on room types for every stay in the last two years. seriously i need to swipe the credit card most visits, at check in most of the time outside the normal places.

The modified room types a week out. Is that an RA perk? Where Ambassadors can just hope for the best at check-in?
