Howdy! On my last stay in November I earned Lifetime Gold with SPG. A friend mentioned that he recieved a gift for that acheivement; I believe a certificate for a discounted-points award stay.

I received an email from SPG offering congratulations, but did not receive any sort of gift for the recognition. Is this standard? Please let me know your experiences.

    Thanks!

I don't recall getting a gift at LT Gold. Maybe the gift he's thinking of coincided with his requalification that year of status and the gift was for that?

hrmmm. I haven't received a requalification gift for a few years now... I LOVED the 35% off a stay certificate!

I did not receive anything for LT Gold. I did get something for LT Platinum though.

The new Plat Requal gift has been devalued to SNAs or the other weak choices (Uber credit, donation, etc).

Alas, LT Plat will probably never be mine. I have a feeling the new combined Marriott program will make this unachievable.

    Unfortunately, you are probably right.

It probably won't be any worse than the current LT Plat MR criteria - 750 nights + 2 million points. Just assuming only hotel spend using a MR credit card, that's 750 nights at an average of $178/night. Add a couple of credit card sign up bonuses and you're looking at $155/night.

Points are by far the harder requirement, but adding some non-hotel spend can potentially help that a bit. I would also have to imagine your SPG points will somehow get factored into the new counter (assuming they stick to a similar criteria).

It is harder to attain than SPG LT Plat, but not unreasonably more difficult. Of course, it's an entirely different discussion whether this is worth all the effort :).

Short discussion too. Can't imagine LT Marriott status would be very rewarding.

I think you have to qualify for SPG50 or higher to get a gift. For regular Plat, I think you get a big fat nothing.
