So I am sort of new to this and just signed up the AA cards with 110K miles, popped into rite aid and picked up 2k worth of onevanilla g/c thinking to pay my cc bill at walmart, THAT DAY the system changed at wally world and they do not accept these cards anymore. Whats a girl to do with 2k of these cards? How to liquidate now? Any advice?

Do those cards allow you to add a PIN number? Ive heard the Citi cards allow you to pay with a debit card over the phone, but not with all cards. Maybe someone who has done this can provide more detailed advice. I have never done manufactured spend personally.

Forgive me for being cynical, but the "damsel in distress" routine makes me think of Bancorp fishing for new holes to plug. The OP just seems too experienced for a newby.

Citi is now charging the OV as a CASH ADVANCE,

I'd read a few threads, had a guy on here a while back that spent $50.00 just to test the waters...and took 30 plus days thinking about it...

    OV is a dead game...

Welcome pilgrim, as John Wayne would say..

As of 6/19/2014, swiping Vanilla VISA(OV, VGC, etc.) as Debit at Walmart results in "Alternate Tender Required," "Debit Not Available," and/or some other error message. Both at registers and the Money Center Express (kiosk, Kate, ATM). No current workaround exists in this universe.

Below is older information not directly related to the 6/19 situation:
Vanilla Visa gift cards newer series which card number starts with 4847 18xx do not have working pin

$200 Vanilla VGCs from WM.com are likely 18-th series now. Beware.

Beware many of the Vanilla cards that say happy holiday at 7-11 are bad. Series 484735 is fine.

Not that I am using these anymore but when did they start being seen as CASH ADVANCE? I bought and unloaded some Monday (before everything went to hell haha) and it charged as it always does.

Find a grocery store that sells MOs and buy some.

I like the Amazon payment answer the most but you could also try to resell these on a secondary market / website for a slight loss. Or maybe you could just use them for normal needed spend, groceries, etc. and send that money to cover the Citi bill. I've never had success at using Citi cards to buy gift cards but I think I'm kinda unlucky at the whole mfg. spend game.

The grocery store is still working, I think.

It is amazing most feel MS is too much work, and they don't have the time.

That is good, working is over rated..

With mall the Government programs, none of us need to get out of bed.

And I do not mind a few empty seats when traveling or trying to find a room.
