New York to FRA in mid-June using the ANA tool, I cant find any availability in C for 2. Based on past experience, does LH open up seats a few days before the flight?

    Test search shows:

    C availability on SQ25 for 4/8, and F availability on LH403 for 4/8
    C availability on SQ25 for 4/9, and F availability on LH403/401 for 4/9

Both for 2 people. Summer is peak travel so no guarantees, but they do tend to open up some availability.

I'd take SQ over LH both for the seat and the service. LH C isn't all that special.

I agree... But SQ is unlikely to release 2 C or F seats on the same flight.

Really? For F, perhaps, but the examples cited above, as well as my personal experience, suggest that the C seats are not so rare.

I'd take SQ over LH but I prefer somewhat less astronomical pricing also. SQ does make passengers pay handsomely for the experience. I just had a SQ F price of $17,058 for GRU-SIN-GRU and an LH price for the same dates of $10,460. With LH I can even fly SQ from Germany to Singapore and still have the lower price. I have no idea about the US, but I'd check carefully with booking LH codeshare on SQ metal, if that applies. It is my frequent choice from Brazil, anyway. If your route has codeshares from any other *A carrier on SQ metal that is worth checking also.

There's a lot of seats flying between NYC and FRA so finding 2 seats on SQ close to departure shouldn't be too much of an issue.

As far as SQ v. LH, I'd probably take LH F (I do enjoy their service) over SQ C but in a class for class comparison, SQ wins for the warm & friendly FAs.

For mid jun I am not seeing availability in C for sq for 2award pax. On some dates there is availability for 1 in C but then none in Y for same flight. Sq might open up 3-4 days before departure but us airways will need availibility now to ticket something.

That is true - but the OP referred to a few days before flight.

Summer is peak travel with lots of paid seats - awards may be difficult.
