I went out to the ground breaking for the terminal renovations at LGA this morning. It was a great photo op as far as events go, with a lot of elected officials there (Congressman, Lt. Gov, Mayor and many city councilmen) and many of them speaking. Also, Delta CEO Anderson and SVP for NYC, Gail Grimmett spoke. Nothing particularly shocking from the statements, including no word on how they plan to handle the extra 10,000+ daily passengers in terms of moving them to/from the city, but such is life.

Also, everyone got a hand in on the ceremonial dirt for the ground breaking:

    Even me. :D

You sure that's dirt all those politicians are shoveling in the picture?

In this case, but only because I was close enough to inspect. ;)

I don't think that all of Delta's planned upgrades to LGA are going to fit in that box... ;)

You didn't catch from the story that the new terminal will service Delta's ant clientele rather than human clientele?

Maybe that's how they're going to handle 4MM additional passengers annually without more taxis or better mass transit.

Although if they do provide mass transit, they'll be needing a whole lot of N gauge rolling stock. Maybe I should buy some Marklin stock!

Thanks for the coverage of the groundbreaking, btw! :)

Anyone know the ETA for the lounge conversion? I flew into LGA last weekend and the experience felt more like a small regional airport than a "hub" -- no lounge, limited food options, no free wifi, warm/no AC...blah blah blah.

I am going there again mid-June and really hope the lounge will be there by then.

    Thanks!

I think they said EoY for the lounge but maybe it is early 2013 as the target.

    Thanks for the info!

Clearly you've never tried to plan a construction project with NYC unions, much less the PANYNJ.

And even with that, 2013 is a pretty aggressive target :p
