The person who should leave the establishment is the manager.

Uh no... the people (6-8 men) complaining should have left the establishment if it offended them that much...It's a free country after all I mean...

Hopefully that manager has either been dismissed or is now washing dishes. Absolutely ridiculous.

Evidently, not in Phoenix, at least at the Sheraton.

Unacceptable. Then again this is Arizona we're talking about. And I agree with a post above, that the manager should leave ...

I agree they were out of line, but....

The person who denied service to the lesbian couple was the manager, not the whiny bigots.

Yes, BeerHunter, you have a problem with Arizona electing a Brewer?

The manager should have told the 6-8 men to get a room and invite him to the room.

May I suggest moving this thread to the Starwood branch ... so their social media people would see how ridiculous was this manager's action!!!

I think if it was me, I would make a bit of a scene. I could never imagine being asked to leave a restaurant, or any establishment for that matter... especially since straight counterparts are free to 'canoodle' as they please...

I have lived in a few totalitarian societies. I don't much like them. Much of the US has some characteristics of those places. I don't like that either.

OTOH, I dislike controversy if it can be avoided.

Thus, I have never engaged in public displays of affection, anywhere with anyone. I think it is unnecessarily provocative to do so. That has nothing to do with sexual preferences and everything to do with discretion.

Attending Carnival, or in a party atmosphere is a quite different thing where anything, more or less, goes as far as I'm concerned. In a hotel restaurant in an intolerant area one might well excercise a bit of judgement rather than provoke outrage from bigots. Provoking bigots is bad form, IMO, and it is simply not fun to do so.

I do not think the manager reacted well, assuming we know the story, nor do I think the bigots did, and the lovers seem to have a hint of gleefulness about the affair.

Nobody wins unless the lovers think the notoriety served them well, or the bigots were happy they did not need their white sheets this time.

I think they'd have to haul me off in cuffs, for something like this. Many years ago, I was engaging in similar behavior, but with two girls at the same time. Luckily, in South America.

There is no excuse for bigots. As long as the establishment does not disallows kissing in public for everyone, they cannot enforce it on what they think is inappropriate. A little something called equal protection (and yes, before anyone jumps I know it applied to the Government not a private establishment - but still).

It would be in excusable for a small mom and pop restaurant, but even more so in a chain that should have tolerance and respect to customers ingrained as part of their corporate training.

The manager should have been dismissed on the spot. I also find the response from the general manager anemic at best.

Riiiight. At least they had a "collaborative conversation" and have "identified opportunities in which both parties can unite and work together to foster diversity awareness" -- which is good, because a black lesbian couple is definitely not diverse enough.
