Some interesting wrinkles on Award Searches:

If you want to re-do the search later, click on "Advanced Search" at the bottom, and the Award Flight Search form reappears. You can return to this at any time later, even after your session has expired, and click on Search to re-do.

    BUT

If you are Platinum / 1K / GS and your session has expired, the re-do will not display the Saver Awards for Platinum Elites (ON, IN, XN), even though the little info box (on the yellow calendar display) does show your status correctly. You have to log in again to see these options.

    AND

Even if you are logged in, the calendar does not highlight days where there are only xN awards available.

An example of this, at the time of writing, is UA 927 FRA-SFO on 08-Apr-2012, which has one ON seat available.

You know it's bad form to cross-post stuff anywhere right?

I deleted from the original thread as WA objected to it being there!

Only because it wasn't relevant. :p

It has been my experience that the calendar it of limited value and that rather often dates showing as no awards on the calendar do have seats, usually on partners. I wouldn't depend on the calendar at all these days, elite or not.

It's only just sunk in that ON is a dual purpose code: Upgrade Business to Global First; and Award Global First.

This may make ON Award space tough to get.

Consider that there is no ON space available, that there is someone booked in Business and waitlisted for an upgrade, and then that one seat is released.

If the upgrade process is a true waitlist, then the seat will be taken immediately.

If the upgrade process is a sweep, then there is a window from the release of the seat (which seems to happen in the early morning Central time) to the sweep execution during which the seat is available for an award booking.
