checked new 321 flight to jfk from LAx and found the fare to be more expensive than 762 flights. I was hoping to try for my last 2mos as EXP for possible upgrade but not sure if I want to try it now specially this will just be a MR.

That would be because the A321 is a better product in all cabins :). Y- "may" be a push but it depends on what each person wants. AA also doesn't have the historical forecasts on bookings and seats and the like that they do on the 762s, so that also plays into it and AA must be being conservative with the inventory classes.

Plus the 321 has far less seats so they need a a higher price per seat to cover operational costs.

That may be true, but at the end of the day, the fare will be what the market will bear.

But they also have lower operational costs, right? (more efficient aircraft?)

they may have a better product but if the buyer is not on board,so goes your "hopeful" profit.

    Yes, by a lot.

I'm intrigued by the claim that the 32B has higher fares than the 762. Looking at a random date in January - the OP didn't offer any details - it seems that the fare is not at all tied to the aircraft type:

There may be fewer seats offered in the lowest economy fare buckets thanks to fewer seats to be sold on each plane, but it is possible to find cheap seats on the 32B, just like on the 767.

Luv the "sharklets" notation on the A321s.
