    This announcement is hot off the QF press.

    In summary:
    • DOM Y fare buckets reduced to three (Red eDeal, Flexi Saver and Fully Flexible)
    • ODU now available across all DOM Y buckets
    • DOM Y- flex fare now earns at Y rates
    • Smoother upgrade process and SMS confirmations planned
    Now this is going to annoy some SG and WP members, as it means particularly with changes to DOM Y- earning rates that it will be easier for members to qualify at their levels. However, I'd be interested to see how these changes stack up on the economics front compared to lifetime qualification levels for other programs and if it makes QFF a more attractive option.

    Just got an email saying

    Request an upgrade on almost any Qantas domestic flight (even Red e-deals)

    That's right, to follow-up on enhancements to our program announced in May, here's even more great news from Qantas Frequent Flyer. From 7 July 2011, you can request an upgrade to Business on any Qantas domestic Australian Economy flight with a QF flight number using your points* - and that now includes domestic Red e-Deals.

    And, for members who have already booked flights, you will be able to request an upgrade from 7 July 2011 as long as you are booked on an eligible Qantas operated flight with a QF flight number.

    Please note that flight upgrades are subject to capacity controls and availability is limited.

    Continually evolving our program for a better member experience
    The change above comes about because we are simplifying our domestic Economy fare families by reducing them from four to three:
    • Red e-Deal - our lowest year-round fares offering the best value for money
    • Flexi Saver - flexible fares offering a greater range of choice
    • Fully Flexible - offers complete flexibility with full refundability to provide the most choice for travel

    For you this means:
    • earning more Status credits on some fares;
    • all domestic Qantas Any Seat Awards are now upgradeable too;
    • less points are needed to request an upgrade award for some fares on domestic Qantas flights; and
    • Domestic Red e-Deals are now upgradeable with points.

    And remember all Qantas domestic Economy fares include meals and drinks, inflight entertainment and one piece of checked baggage plus the Minimum Points Guarantee of 1,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points on even the shortest flight (for paid travel with a QF flight number, except where operated by Jetstar).

    I am so surprised in a good way they are allowing upgrades on nearly any fare. That's a huge improvement.... now you can book a cheap fare in the hope you get upgraded rather than choosing an expensive fare and not getting upgraded and feel like you wasted your money! What's the catch here?

    Confirmed international upgrades in advance would be nice though.......

    Sorry I forgot to include the word international before upgrades.

    From the title of this thread, I thought that the champagne was being improved.
