I loved that model when it was new.
read about the last MD-11 passenger flight here
I was on board.
A few photos and the story I published about the final MD11 flight, for anyone interested.
Yes, that's a tattoo of the MD11 on his arm.
Lots of AvGeeks on board and the crew was having a great time as well. I feel a bit badly for the regular passengers who just wanted to get to Amsterdam and beyond; they had no idea what they were in for on that flight.
That's awesome, and thanks for documenting the event in great detail!!!
Well, when I woke up on Friday morning I actually had no plans to be there. I bought the tickets ~11am on Friday for Saturday departure.
I flew in many MD11 flights with Swissair and KLM. I am fond of both airlines, even of the diminished pair now that both are ugly-duckling subsidiaries of LH (ok, it's now the ex-Crossair Swiss) and AF, respectively. I never was especially fond of the MD-11 nor the DC-10, for that matter. Especially the MD-11 simply has too many handling quirks. By contrast the L-1011 was a favourite of mine but it was hopelessly uneconomic so disappeared more quickly. My personal favourite was Gulf Air's Five-Star Tri-Star. Swissair on the MD-11 used to cook breakfast and dinner to order in the MD-11, a sybaritic experience. KLM made do with houses, and luckily those will probably never end. I hope not since my collection is in need of a good many houses.
I suspect if I'd known about this i might have done it too. Congratulations!
I was fortunate enough to partake in the events at YUL but alas didn't make it on the flight.
