    Last year Oracle CEO Larry Ellison bought the island of Lanai. In February he bought Island Air. Now local news stations report he is buying the inter-island carrier go! from its parent company, Mesa Air Group. The go! fleet will be re-branded as Island Air. The deal will be formally announced on June 28.

    Hawaii business reporter Howard Dicus raises the question of whether Larry Ellison is creating a competitor for Hawaiian Airlines. He points out that ex-Hawaiian Airlines CEO Paul Casey was recently hired to head Island Air.
    Hawaiian has 85% of the market in the routes go! currently flies, so creating a credible competitor will be a Herculean task.

    Howard Dicus has an interesting blog post on the history of go! in Hawaii and the fall of Aloha Airlines here;
