World Duty Free Group opens innovative new store focused on brand engagement at Gatwick airport south terminal

World Duty Free Group (WDFG) officially opened its newly developed £4m ($6.48m) store at Gatwick airport’s south terminal this week including the largest walk-through store in the group’s European operations.

The 2,830sq m store has been strategically repositioned at the entrance to the departure lounge and has been designed with ease of navigation and clear sight lines across the retail space.

The liquor area is at the store entrance with a tasting bar for use by brand partners for the purposes of in-store theatre and product sampling and features a digital display bar fascia that can display panoramic or multi-screen content.

The liquor area incorporates WDFG’s specialist wine concept, Wine Collection – Rare & Vintage, to help drive sales across its range of premium and rare wines, the third such execution of this specialist feature beyond Heathrow terminals three and five.

The store includes WDFG’s largest tobacco display area (TDA) to date, which has been developed in partnership with Japan Tobacco International and includes feature areas for the various cigarette brands, as well as a cigar humidor and dedicated till point.

I like how they describe it as something good to have a huge shop when all people I know try to rush through the duty free shops as fast as they can.

I suppose leisure travellers are different and could appreciate this new shop...
