I purchased a ticket that takes me vis LIM to SFO.... the crummy LAN website aside from the usual driving me crazy stuff only allows me to do seat selections for the EZE to LIM and LIM to EZE.... but it tells me that I cannot get myself a seat for the LIM to the US and back.... what gives...?

Do I have to get seats by calling the infamous 0800 number and having to suffer from the abuse of Castellano from the wrong side of the Andes....?

    Paging Senior Pisco.........

Habla Don Pisco. You will have to call. For some reason, even on my own flights in the superior cabin, I can't even access the seatmaps anymore on the SFO/LIM/SFO segments. Perhaps it is because they are tinkering with which aircraft (18 v 30 seat J cabins) - I have no idea. I can view and select on my LIM/SCL/EZE/LIM segments.

I have no idea. I have no experience in the main cabin of that aircraft.

LA uses the A pier of the International Terminal. The privileged few of us that have regular lounge access at SFO while flying LA use the BA lounge. This is the only Oneworld lounge open at the time of the LA departure. The food/wine selection is generally crap (although since it usually coincides with a CX flight, there are some reconstituted dimsum type items there at that hour). The space is nice, and depending on staffing and functionality, the flight may board directly from the lounge.

I don't know if you can buy your way in without otherwise having access. The only one that I am pretty sure you can is the DL lounge (just past the security checkpoint, to the left.) Those are the only two I've been in, but there are a few others (with very limited hours).

I forgot to ask details of lounge access when I flew out of SFO.... I had wanted to ask about any place I could crash with my Priority Pass card but just forgot. In the end, I had some so-so chinese food at one of the not so fast food local shops.... :p

The only PP selections left @ SFO are UA and AS, neither of which were accessible from your pier of gates. I hope you thought our International terminal was a pleasant space.

ps - I just purchased a ticket for May and while I could make seat reservations for the SFO/LIM/SFO segments at booking (and the travel agency can change them w/o issue), when going to the LA website, only the LIM/EZE/LIM seats are viewable/changeable. 3 of the 4 segments have the small J cabin. I predict the 4th will, soon.

I had the same problem with LIM to MIA. I was able to select my seat online for MIA-SCL, SCL-IPC, IPC-LIM, but not LIM-MIA. My flights aren't until late next May so in the back of my mind I was hoping it was because they would have the 787 on that route by then.

I really don't know why they restricted the US flights for choosing seats - up through early this year it wasn't an issue.

Doesn't make sense - any travel agent can get them for you if the TA did the booking. You can also call and have them assigned.
