I've created a monster. My fiancee was never into mileage accumulation with a purpose until we became reacquainted with each other. After hearing my stories now all of a sudden she wants to split vacations between flights on US Air (her airlines) and AA (my airlines).

What tactics would you use to talk your other half into leaving the darkside?

To me it makes no sense to split between the two and I've been doing this way longer than her!

    P.S.
I know I'm being selfish, but she she wants to pick the house we live in as well as the furniture. She even had the nerve to suggest want kind of car I should get (I want the Dodge SRT8. She wants me to get an Altima or a Maxima)! Is it really too much for her to commit to AA? Oh yeah, I'm getting the SRT8 too!

You will lose. I'm telling you now. But the best advice is to throw in a third option. Always start your bargaining with something unreasonable. That way you can compromise on what you secretly really wanted.

You should both leave and join UA. :D

But giving up AA is like giving up a child from a previous marriage just to make the new person happy. Did I mention that she tries to dress me too?

...and the problem with that would be???

....and your choice is between US Air and AA? Well, I should think that any choice between US Air and any-other-airline-in-the-universe would be a no-brainer, but to each their own. :)

If that child isn't working out, send 'em off to military school.

And I dress her. I usually win.

clearly she seems 'to get' the idea of a FF program and the benes that come with it.

breakdown logically the pros/cons of each program and run through it, who knows, perhaps you'll be on the losing end?:D

I always thought AA was the dAArkside?

You could always just pick and choose a route they both fly. Or you could always just keep a house divided, increasing your options for rewards, with each of your status levels improving the experience for the other.

Or, every vacation, you fly AA, she flies US. Perhaps even to different destinations. Definitely a good way to have a long(er) lasting marriage. :D

Shouldn't the decision depend on who can get the better status match or challenge? Neither of you would want to marry a nonelite, right?

You said "not for the ladies" so I had to look.... From a female perspective, sounds like she's testing your spine strength. She wants total control: your car, your clothes and [shudder] your airline of choice - or is she testing your strength of conviction?

I agree with previous posters - anything's better than US Airways.

Hhmmm.. What is her connection with US? Why can't she go to AA if you already have the higher status?

I've always though it would be so nice to be with a fellow FF, but I do wonder how we would pick and airline and who would make the hotel res

Tough situation, though better to be in that than to deal with a clueless kettle who thinks you're crazy.

I think which airline to pick would be driven by location, and other needs. Though I still insist that for true award redemption, a divided household could actually be useful for making sure you can get to more destinations.

    Sounds good to me.

Besides, you can always fly separately to the same destinations and both keep your status.

PS - picking your car is going to far. Lol. I feel bad for anyone I date who doesn't like my car. As a woman, I agree with Ella's post above. Some women will test your spine just to test it. That doesn't at all mean they are bad women that you shouldn't be with, they just want to see what power they have. It's all about picking the battles that mean the most to you, and letting her win enough to make her happy :)

Guess I should warn you that there are quite a few sporty cars that I don't really fit well in :p

I won't lie, the Miata is itty. The Porsche, however, is quite comfy.

I don't fit in the Miata at all, but I can't argue with the Porsche
