On my last visit to Seoul, I rented an Android phone, Nexus One, from S Roaming. The rate was very good as I got 50% off the regular daily rate of 2,700 KRW (~$2.50 US) with the data rate of 1 KRW (~$0.001 US)/1 KB. Nice feature is that the daily data rate is capped at 10,000 KRW (~$9.23). The unlimited data plan is available at 5,000 KRW (~$4.62)/day which runs through the end of June 2011.

Additionally it takes online reservation so you can reserve one before you get to Korea.

S Roaming is available only at Inchon and Gimpo airports.

That is awesome, a nice Nexus One and decent charges for data....might consider that for my upcoming trip to Korea. T-Mobile charges a lot more than this for roaming data and minutes.

I own iPhone but Android phone was very convenient; I configured to my Google account and downloaded all contact info and so on. BTW you can ask to set up Android phone in English rather than Korean. Lastly MAKE SURE you delete personal information before you return it (to be on safe side).

I wish I looked into this last year before heading to South Korea. I was totally stuffed on data charges (and I'm a prepaid user to boot). Just had to switch off services because I just couldn't fund the data costs.

Only KT offers iPhone for rental. Its page isn't clear on rate though. Its iPhone data plan is 5,000 won/day and it may be on top of 2,700 won/day for phone rental. BTW its iPhone data plan is not unlimited.

On my last trip, I couldn't rent an Android phone at Gimpo airport. I should have reserved one online. :(

  9. I've never used Android before, can you do tethering with this phone?

The Nexus One and the Nexus S are "with Google" 'flagships' (meaning it has unadulterated Android) meaning you get wifi hotspot and USB tethering with proper drivers. I wouldn't hold my breath for the Sammy though...

Quick recap: Yes, the Nexus S wifi and USB tethers. Unlimited data as well.
