I read early this year or late last year that KLM was going to fly MIA-AMS using their MD-11. I loaded up the Skyteam TravelDesk and was able for find that this route should be operated as KL628 on Monday and Wednesday with the MD-11. Today I went looking for a flight in March, but nothing appeared on their website. In fact there are no more nonstop flights listed. Does anyone know where the MD-11 has been moved to? [IMG]

    Hi,

Just checked, and it is definitely there. For example, found it on March 28, with a return on Apr 4. Does the route start late March by any chance (around the 21st possibly)?

    Cheers,

I believe the route will start from the start of the summer season. As pointed out by GenevaFlyer the 28th is the first flight.

Thanks y'all. I also found it flying YUL-AMS in early March.

Does anyone have a feel for where the cheapest Z fares on the MD-11 might be?

Looking at the two routes discussed here, Z fares YUL-AMS are $2k cheaper than MIA-AMS. Are there typically even better options out there?

These are the MD-11 routes in the 2011 Summer Schedule:

    DEL
    YUL
    YYC
    YVR
    MIA
    PTY
    IKA
    SXM (on Fridays)

    Happy hunting!

I believe the earlier flights have to do with some dance festival in Miami. There was a petition from the organisers and if X hundred people signed in KLM would start the flight earlier.

  10. Canada is usually a great destination if you want low(er) prices. Distance from AMS is often shorter, and taxes are lower than when flying into the US.

Miami service may be pushed to 23MAR11.

It's not showing on KLM's inventory system for 21MAR11.

As discussed in this thread, the MD11 will also be headed to Havanna next winter.

Now if only that didn't cause a ruckus for a US citizen. [IMG]

Probably a lot less than a visit to IKA... [IMG]

Thanks everyone. I just booked my MD-11 flight today. I'm taking my kid brother to Amsterdam during his spring break. We're flying DEN-CVG-YUL-AMS-MSP-DEN with the YUL-AMS segment on the tri-jet. We have to fly coach because our mom won't pay for him to fly in anything else, so I grabbed 36A & 36B as it appears there is a bit of extra leg space with the curvature of the fuselage. If I totally messed that up let me know soon!

Do remember that it tends to be a bit noisy in the back so if you need it quiet to sleep it may not be a good option. Other than that, should be no problem.

That's what the earplugs I got from my father-in-law who works heavy machinery maintenance are for [IMG]. Well, that and so I don't have to hear by brother talk forever about video games [IMG].

I'm taking MIA-AMS in April. I booked back when they had a sale and got a cheap Z fare. So I will be sitting up front in 1A or the "quiet zone". :)
