    Hi MilePointers,

We're having another Kiva Insights call hosted by Bob Harris and featuring Premal Shah this Thursday, 10/4, at 10am PST.

To join the call, go to http://www.spreecast.com/events/kiva-insights. You don't need to pre-register, you'll just need to use that link to join in on Thursday.

Come prepared with questions; we'll have time set aside for Q&A during the second half of the call. Hope to see/hear you on the line!

Sorry; I'm going to avoid the "love-fest" this time and concentrate on work. I'll check out the summary thread that is sure to appear.

Hopefully someone from the team can listen/participate in the Insights program. I have a meeting at that time, but have expressed that considering it is the more avid Kiva supporter/lender who will participate, it should be more content rich than the first one!

We'll be recording the call and posting it on the blog afterwards. If you can't make it, try to find someone to share questions with. We really do want to hear from you guys in the Q/A - it's the reason we have these calls - so hopefully MilePoint will have some representation tomorrow.

I participated in today's conversation with Premal and Bob. They actually took and gave an answer to my question. My query was: Please explain in detail what steps Kiva took to reduce the number of expirations in the past two months. Thanks.

Premal said there were two factors in play:

    1. More informed partners. Kiva provided more info to the partners. Partners now realize not everything will be funded. They must be mindful to post appealing loans. Better stories and photos.

    2. Telling partners they need to have loan requests that would be more impactful to the economy.

    Yes it is Kivaspeak.

Here is a link to the video clip of Premal's answer.

The question after mine was allegedly by Hugh Sinclair who wrote a book critical of Kiva and microfinance. It is called Confessions of a Microfinance Heretic. Bob Harris made a completely inappropriate and inane remark immediately before Premal's response. Premal gave a thoughtful and respectful answer.

There were some other members of the MPKLT on the spreecast. Including someone who thought it would be cute to be id'ed as tondoleo's evil twin.:)

He or she did not have any questions answered.

All I can state is that Mom and Dad did love me much more.

Thanks for participating and your comments. Actually, I appreciate Preml noting that greater communication with the FPs in important in the process and that loans were meant to be relevant to microfinance/economic development for the economically disadvantaged! He forgot to mention that the number of loans was decreased from the May-July high, as well as how loans were being rolled out at the start of the month (which contributed to the mass expirations).

The other matters (incl SME, education loans) are probably still being discussed for impact on Kiva.

I will have to listen in to hear Hugh Sinclair's question and more importantly Premal's answer.

T, did this discussion encourage you about Kiva's direction and capacity to correct some of the issues that have cropped up in the past few months?

as for your evil twin, fcjapan, did you get time to leave stall #4! :p

No. I am not encouraged. I will still be annoying and cynical. It is my nature.:)

However, as our colleague miles and smiles has accurately stated Kiva should always have an appealing loan or two to provide funds. In fact I joined my friend milchap on a loan a few minutes ago. My first loan of the month.

Loans with appeal do inspire our zeal for lending that provides meals for those face conditions that for us are unreal.

Yeah, I got on towards the end. I had a question about Sinclair's book. but it seemed he was on the webcast and asked something similar. I found it somewhat humorous that Bob Harris hadn't heard of the book, since clearly Premal and Kiva knew about it. He mentioned that Matt Flannery had tried to reach out to him.

Sinclair mentioned that someone at Milepoint invited him to the call. Who was it? C'mon. Inquiring minds want to know.

Also, let me say that this one was much better than the first. The Webcasting service was superior and seeing Premal helped. Bob Harris continues to disappoint as a host imho.

Yes, I was wondering who here @ MP extended the invite, too! Was very glad to hear Premal's very thoughtful response.
