    Key West officials to arrest Uber drivers as of today Key West city officials have threatened to arrest Uber drivers beginning today, July 1, 2015. Uber claims that Key West has “outdated regulations, and while [they] want to work with city officials to modernize their laws just like nearly 50 jurisdictions have done before, [Key West] is trying to shut Uber down with arrest threats before that can happen.” I was in Key West last month and I tried to use Uber as much as possible because Uber was the cheaper alternative. However, since the drivers are so scared of being pulled over, wait times were high and you had to plan ahead if you wanted to get an Uber. All the drivers I used (about eight) were friendly, professional, and courteous. It’s unfortunate that Key West, and other cities, are taking such drastic measures against Uber. The main reason for the Uber backlash is due to the powerful taxi unions that want to remain in control of the local transportation market. Uber is cheaper, friendlier, and more efficient than most taxi’s and therefore the unions know that Uber and Lyft pose an economic threat to their future existence. If you want to [...]
