I am trying to get 5 tickets from KC to Montreal on June 7 or 8 and 3 tickets from Boston back to KC on 16 or 17.

I have about 125K United Miles, 300K AA miles and 250K Amex Points.

Would like to fly United to get the economy plus seats up to Montreal but, unfortunately there only awards are 25K per ticket. Can I use use the 25K to get a roundtrip for 3 of the tickets coming back from Boston? It seems I have to call United to do this and it will be $25 per person.

I could do AA but I really would have to get one first class ticket for my father in law.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

You most certainly can book an open jaw, or two one-way awards. You could not do a "stopover" on a purely North American trip.

Since you are paying fees for booking by phone, I imagine you are not an elite, so booking it as two one-way tickets would mean two redeposit fees should you have to cancel.

    For the outbound look at:
Depart: 11:48 a.m. Tue., May. 8, 2012 Kansas City, MO (MCI)
    Arrive:2:42 p.m. Tue., May. 8, 2012 Cleveland, OH (CLE)
    Flight: UA4433

Depart: 4:05 p.m. Tue., May. 8, 2012 Cleveland, OH (CLE)
Arrive: 5:39 p.m. Tue., May. 8, 2012 Montreal, QC Canada (YUL - Trudeau)
    Flight: UA4302
I see 8 seats available on that flight at the saver level right now.

    For the return pick:

    Depart: 6:00 a.m.Wed., May. 16, 2012 Boston, MA (BOS)
Arrive: 8:03 a.m. Wed., May. 16, 2012 Cleveland, OH (CLE)
    Flight: UA4242
    Aircraft: Embraer RJ145

Depart: 8:38 a.m. Wed., May. 16, 2012 Cleveland, OH (CLE)
Arrive: 9:44 a.m. Wed., May. 16, 2012 Kansas City, MO (MCI)
    Flight: UA4257
    Aircraft: Embraer RJ145
Should be 7 seats on that routing.

For the outbound look at the last flight KCI-EWR on the 7th, connecting to EWR-YUL on the 8th. You'd have to overnight at EWR but the inventory is there. Not sure if it would book as a multi-city online or if you need to call it in, but I see the seats.

For the return I see a 5:15 am out of BOS on the 17th connecting to the last IAH-KCI flight of the day, but that's a miserable 12 hours in IAH. :(

I just wanted to say THANKS to everyone's helpful advice. I ended up geting two tickets using FF miles on United that were round trip, but open jawed, and ended up buying 4 tickets, two one ways to Montreal and two one-ways from Boston back to KCI. This was the best use of miles I think.
