...on 2 RT tickets from the SE to the west coast for a weekend. Why, Delta? Whyyyyy???
Why did you do it? How much would it have cost to buy the tickets with money?
$845 x 2
It's actually not a RT. Arriving in OAK, departing from SFO.
It is then a great value for the miles.
Also keep looking. I called to change my DCA-LAX flights and the fare dropped fro 50 to 40.
2 days later when I changed again, there was F in AS flight that dropped me to 35!
I am going in Y but hoping for an upgrade as well. Who knows it may be 35 for r/t F x2,
instead of 50 x 2 for Y
So wait... your issue is spending 50k for a coach ticket that costs $845 and is likely last minute? Am I missing something? On AA, CO, UA it'd cost you the same. What's your gripe?
No, I'm happy to spend 50K on an $845 ticket. I just hate that spending 50K was my best option with 2 months of searching.
Welcome Deltalina. It's nice to see you here.
But the 'issue' I would have with your assumption is that, over that timeframe, it's likely that you would not have found a cheaper award using DL/CO/AA/UA/US miles.
I would argue that because of the way that Delta hands out the SkyPesos you ended up spending the same as any other airline in actual miles but realized a better VALUE since DL miles < OAL miles.
If the mileage is really a problem then there's always some way around it...but that might involve strange and less direct options. Sounds like you did just fine, even if it seems steep.
Deltalina...be careful of identity theft ;-)
Oh I promise, Deltalina is my nickname... just ask DYKWIA
I just booked TYS-SMF-TYS for 32,500 in April. Found the same for SFO and SJC.
That's actually still a RT since OAK-SFO are co-terminals.
