As we get ready for the Sochi 2014 Olympics to begin...

Some amusing hotel "review" tweets... :)

I'm hoping this is not the trend people will face in the coming weeks! No internet might be a luxury for some (right?! Oh wait, it's the digital age!), but hot water is a bit of necessity I think...especially in the winter!

Construction materials, workers, even stray dogs still occupying Olympic sites -- that can't be good for security! As far as the comfort level, maybe they should call them "Spartan Games" this year.

No tap water in Russia is safe to drink. It is, however, normally okay to wash with and it looks like Sochi failed that.

Russia is also the only country in which I ever stayed in a hotel room (in Irkutsk) which had heated towel racks but no hot water.

TripAdvisor reviews for the upcoming days will certainly be interesting...

(There is a new Marriott in town, though)

This just in: Hotels not accepting credit cards!

My understanding (I've never been to Russia) is that credit card use is far less common in Russia than it is in the US or western Europe.

Some of these shouldn't be a bid deal to a seasoned traveler. Others are rather inexcusable for what is supposed to be a world-class event.

Perhaps they should spend less time discriminating and more time preparing.
