  2. It will make QF/JQ connections easier especially in SIN or BKK!

Turns out QF forum on FT thinks the reporter was confused about joining OW and joining OW fares. So I guess we will have to wait and see. But it is weird that if they have decided to join, there should be at least some kind of press release but I haven't seen any so far

do you actually earn mileage on Jetstar? I know in Australia you don't, but does flying Jetstar Asia contribute to your Qantas frequent flyer account?

while making my booking on 3K it asked for my QF FF #

It gets you from A to B cheaply.

Qantas have announced they are looking at codesharing on some 3K services, so it is possible in the future that booking the QF flight number will get you points. Mind you, you will likely be paying Qantas prices for the privilege..

I had a meeting today with a senior Qantas pilot today and he claims there is not a chance in hell (quote) that Jetstar would join OW as he thinks that is just a malicious rumour.

I guess I would have never believed JL would codeshare with JQ so I guess anything is possible.

Just like we would never had guessed the hostile competition between DL and AA for JAL :p But I will believe it when there's a press release.

It's all poor reporting and wording by stuff.co.nz IMO (unfortunately). The press release says nothing about Jetstar joining the OW alliance, just about the new fare and interlining arrangement.

Qantas FF members can currently only earn QFF points and SC's only when flying Jetstar on Flexible fares or in StarClass. This is even true if on QF codeshare flight numbers.

I believe this is all about being able to use JQ metal with QF flight number on oneworld products such as the Oneworld or Global explorer fares.

Unless changes are made to individual program earning rules, I doubt any Economy type products (LONEx, LGLOBnn etc.) would enable earning of Frequent Flyer points/miles in any program when travelling on JQ metal.

Jetstar, as many other people have mentioned, is pretty much a hole.

For example. I don't want to get off a CX flight and then suddenly hop on a crowded bus-plane for my connecting flight on a great partner alliance service. I wouldn't even put JQ on any of my flights. It is nowhere near premium standard.

  15. If they do join, I hope non-Australians (and therefore harder for them to know more about JQ) will not be under any illusion that they would be flying on a full-service carrier. JQ, even in Star Class, is not a full-service/premium carrier.

Agree 100%. Esp. when Qantas actively blurs the line between the two (when it suits their purposes). It will only cause issues for all parties involved if people are not 100% aware that Jetstar is a low cost carrier.

Qantas recently added 'L' to the list of classes that earn on the JQ codeshare (subject to it being on a oneWorld fare)

Well that will bring QFF into line; I wonder if AAdvantage, CX, BA et al will follow suite?

For JAL you can't even earn miles for on QF coded flights operated by JQ [IMG]

  20. It is now possible:

I wouldn't normally choose to fly with JQ... but I can imagine that if it opened up a better route for me, I would consider it as part of a bigger oneworld fare.

Even at the expense of not able to earn EQPs (if that's the case)?

If I earn status credits on my QFF account then I'm happy.

However - it's true that a number of factors are at play here: EQPs, routing, timing, whether or not I can actually get to where I want to go when I want to go there. I'd have to weight up all the factors before deciding. [IMG]

We had family visit recently flew QF LHR-SYD, proudly showing us their itinerary around Oz, it included a QF flight from CNS to SIN on departure, had to break the bad news to them re JQ

But that flight comes with a bonus 4 hour stopover in Darwin, at no extra charge!
