...that you trumpeted the notorious slogan.

Even former DL apologists and ex-long term loyalists are using it now!

"In November 2008 Delta Air Lines merged with TheFormerAirlineWhoseNameCannotBeSpoken (TFAWNCBS) to create America's Premier Global Airline with a leading presence in the world's major markets and a [IMG] best-in-class * [5 image limit] loyalty program, SkyMiles. By the fall of 2009 Delta Air Lines SkyMiles and the former WorldPerks programs will be consolidated and the result will be the new Delta SkyMiles, with more than 74 million members, the largest and [IMG] best-in-class [IMG] loyalty program in the airline industry."

    Or...

"We are committed to a [IMG] best-in-class [IMG] SkyMiles program that gives our most loyal customers the benefits they deserve. That's why we're keeping the benefits that mean the most to our Medallion members and adding others that surpass what any other airline offers," said Jeff Robertson, Delta's vice president of loyalty programs. "Features introduced in 2010 will provide SkyMiles Medallion members meaningful, unmatched benefits on flights to nearly 400 destinations across six continents."

Do you all like those "benefits...that surpass what any other airline offers"?

I'm not sure what they are, but they sounded good only three years ago.

And those "meaningful, unmatched benefits"...? Hmmm....are those; the incredible vanishing O bucket; the skyrocketing M fares; the "three-tier" redemption scheme; the elimination of voucher combinability; the doubling of Asia award levels overnight; the preservation of award inventory with the T-72 award change moratorium for all pax including DM; FCM on all major routes; or any of the other * best in class * revisions of SM since then?

Wow, SM was already inferior to the program that cannot be named, but this partial list is a dirge.

But Jeff's masterful execution is revealed because, even now, there appear to be some - a few - customers who really believe this. I suppose the scales will fall when they finally experience EOS, which could be any day now.

    E-x-cellent! *rubs hands*

But I should be clearer. Jeff will not rue the day he decimated the SM program, no indeed, he and his compadres jubilate at that and there's nothing anyone including - especially - DL loyalists can do about it.

He will however rue the day that he trumpeted the brazen slogan

    [IMG] best in class [IMG]

because the arrogance and contempt it showed was greater than that shown by any other airline for their Elite customers. The gulf between this statement and the delivery of DL SM was already more of a cosmic fissure than the Marianas Trench when he said so, in 2009. That was even before the recent and most customer-hostile recidivisms. That was back when DL SM had quite a legion of apologists on FT and elsewhere. And the slogan was trumpeted proudly - don't you remember it was posted on billboards at LAX T5. And it appeared in promotional SM emails to customers. Even in Sky rag.

But. It has become too embarrassing for the DL SM management to use and they quietly dropped it two years ago. In recognition that this is the only victory that Medallion customers can win over DL SM management, some of us will never let them forget this. By using it in perpetuity we remind them of the fact that customers smell bs miles away and call them on it. I take pleasure whenever someone over on FT uses the stars to refer to SM and now a number of people do.

Yes, the vested interests had me banned - but that won't stop the [IMG] best in class [IMG] reminders from others. Because SM is, unquestionably, [IMG] best in class [5-image limit].

It would have been much better and ballsier of Jeff to have followed Michael O'Leary's lead and stated:

"We're eliminating the features of SM that cost us marginal revenue. Too bad if you don't like it. There's the WN checkin counter."
