So I guess if Jeff still wants to work for the worlds largest airline, he will have to apply at AA.

Just because he says it is the leading airline, does not make this necessarily true.
There you get in to marketing wordplay.
There's a difference between "leading airline" and "largest airline."
I'm sure any CEO's ego would like to "lead the largest airline," but with UA's sluggish financials, I don't think Smisek really cares at this point.
Cuts are all but certain once US/AA merge. UA could remain the world's largest airline after USdbaAA cuts capacity.
