The following is from Andrew Yiu at Air Canada. I was in contact with Andrew and for the time being if you have questions on this rebooking policy you can contact him on FT via a PM.

    -------------------------

Japan (NRT) rebooking policy (as of Mar 16, 2011)
Many of you have been inquiring about NRT rebooking policy.

    Here's the most updated info:

For any customers traveling to/from/through Japan with tickets issued by Air Canada and your ticket was issued on/before Mar 11, 2011 with an original travel date on/before Apr 30, 2011, your ticket can be re-booked to a new travel date with change fee waived and fare differences waived if the same booking class is available and your new travel dates originates on/before Apr 25, 2011.

If you no longer wish to travel to/from Tokyo, your ticket can also be rebooked to an alternate Asia destination (PEK, PVG, HKG or ICN) with the same condition as above.

For those who would like to cancel their tickets, you can get a full refund if your original travel date is on/before Mar 31, 2011. For travel after Mar 31, 2011, fare rules apply.

In order to help our customers who might be traveling to Japan to help with the recovery efforts, we have also amended our checked luggage policy for those traveling to NRT (as a final destination) for travel on/before Mar 18 on AC operated flights to permit 3 complimentary pieces of checked luggage.

We will continue to monitor and update/adjust as necessary. Any questions, feel free to contact me.

probably because other methods were clearly not effective in getting the information out.

i would be curious as to whether they can even get this message to pax impacted. i rarely get e-mails with schedule changes.

The fact that AC used FT to communicate is positive IMHO.
    The rest is speculation.... [IMG]

I was in contact with Andrew just now and he has indicated that for now if anyone has any questions on this rebooking policy to please contact him via FT PM. While I do not like that :) I can understand the bandwidth issues and wanted to ensure any AC Flyers here had a way to contact him should you need to ask a question on this. I have added the above text to the original post also.

I too hope that the changes will help your friend. If I recall they are trying to exit the area and were not having success changing the ticket?

This is a very generous offer in regards to excess luggage for those without Elite / Super-elite status.

This is really great, I have a UA ticket to NRT in mid-April and would love to make this type of a change, but it seems like I have to wait until April to see if I can make the change without paying a huge change fee.

ACMM I too wish you could work your magic with UA [IMG] I have a tkt for next week. They're not being as generous as AC who is offering a choice of Asian destinations...UA isn't charging a change fee but one does need to pay the difference in fares. Ok, I must say that this is reasonable but after seeing AC's generous offer....it makes me weep with jealousy[IMG].

    Ask Why Fly:p
I changed my NRT flights to HKG flights with no fare difference in B class! I only paid about $2K return for my NRT B fare but got a HKG return in B class with immediate upgrades. Thanks AC.

Though I'd rather go to Japan, my wife doesn't. She may be right, we're going there to eat but there might not be too much enjoyable to eat now. Best wishes for the Japanese people. We will be back.

    Didn't mean to be demeaning.

Was too lazy to type and didn't realize that the word is not supposed to be used... No offense to the Japanese people.

It is cases like this where we need an unlike button. Hard to believe you didn't realize this was offensive. Hopefully we won't get a similar response to another disaster in Pakistan.

    I really didn't. My bad.
When I was learning Japanese, I misused the word お前, thinking it means "you". But this is a way of saying "you" in a derogatory way and I have been using it a few times until someone pointed it out to me.

jarusoba, thank you for deleting the offensive word.
I do believe you and that your choice of that particular noun was done out of lack of knowledge and not meaness.
