Comparison of new and old piece system allowances.
    - F and C passengers get 1 extra piece
    - Increased linear dimension limit for ALL passengers

New Baggage Rules (effective Apr 1 2011)

Looks like JAL is more generous to C passengers than NH, giving them 3 pieces instead of 2. I hope they aren't losing much money on this.

So for JGC flying in C, (assuming no change in elite benefit) you will get 5 pieces of 32 kg each. That's 160 kg of baggages!!! Anyone want to bring their kitchen sink?

Only if you fly in C/F...for Y travel, you only get 23kg unless they change the elite benefits :( It gets really expensive if you go over 23kg but under 32kg. You have to pay 4 x 5 x USD60 = USD1200 LOL

It would be nice if they just give you the 32kg limit if you are elites.

So a Y elite flyer or JGC member just gets 23 kg? Wowzers.

For non-elites. But for us, we will be forced to pack our stuff into two bags if we plan to bring more than 23kg. Right now you can put everything in one big luggage and have no problem at all.

Okay but only 2x 23 kg? Not 1 x 32kgs and a bit more in another bag? Damn. Thank god i'm coming home before 1st of April when the same system swings into action with Qantas. I will have to buy new luggage though.

unless they change the elite benefits, no. You get 4 x 23kg with JGC though. Welcome to the piece system world. That's what I have been complaining about this change all the time.

The biggest problem is how are you going to carry 4 pieces of luggage while traveling alone.

Yeah I never planned to take that much. I just was thinking of one hand luggage and two checked baggage with 4 wheels on all luggage should do the trick.

Even two checked luggage is hard to do if you are traveling alone. Imagine what it is like if you have to travel to/from NRT during rush hours

As a reminder, the new baggage rules now applies and please pack your bags accordingly if you don't want to pay for the extra baggage fee :)
