ANA has just announced the new piece system applicable to all international flights (ANA switch to piece system on all international flights from April 1 2011)

According to Asahi, JAL will consider doing the same thing. http://www.asahi.com/national/update/0209/TKY201102090401.html

This will simplify the system. But I like the current weigh system because as a JGC member, I can check an extra 20kg under the weigh system and not have to worry about how heavy my luggage is. But under the new piece system, I have to make sure each piece is under 23kg when I fly in Y and under 32kg in other classes (which shouldn't be a problem...I don't think I can lift such an heavy luggage :p)

    Thoughts?

Do we need people to carry kitchen sinks on the airplane?

Some people just like to travel heavy. For me I don't mind on my outbound but give me enough allowances on my ex-Japan flights so I can shop like a shopaholic! :D

Probably trying to unify weight and piece concepts to avoid just having a system for the US only. Maybe also trying to get the kgs the same as Qantas will have with max 23 kgs too with surcharges for any piece over 23 kgs.

I don't really care. I'm never even close to baggage weight limits...

Same here although I have to split my luggage sometimes if I want to avoid the 23kg weigh limit

Two heavy pieces are easier to handle than three. :)

I know that's why I don't like this change unless they give 32kg per piece to JMB elites. I believe currently that's not the case for US flights but I haven't had that problem before.
