This should be the 2nd roundtrip of this particular aircraft (JA822J) and it requires maintenance that cause a delay of 24 hours already :( Good that JAL stages the BOS launch to 4 weekly flights for exactly this reason :)

Anyone knows what's wrong with the aircraft?

    It is too new?

While I know they test the heck out of these aircraft before pax like us get to fly them, I like to see a year or two of operating history before I get on. Did the same of the 380 and 777 way back when.

I was a little premature getting on the 380 it turns out...

Nancy Bird Walton flew home today. Returns to service next week. Can't happen twice, right? ;)

JL007 on May 2 was delayed for about an hour due to aircraft maintenance. Seems like these 788 birds keep getting problems. Hopefully reliability will improve over time.

I don't understand the slightly hysterical tone. There is no record anywhere of higher accident rates for new aircraft than older ones since the days of the Comet. New aircraft almost always have teething problems but for more than 50 years those have not resulted in fatalities or even injuries. Even the Nancy Bird story caused financial issues but nobody was injured. Boeing has never had a stellar record of simple new aircraft introduction, but they've always resolved issues and nobody has been injured, just inconvenienced. It has not been much different for Airbus, Embraer or Bombardier to name the top four manufacturers.

Glitches, yes. Problems with environmental controls and entertainment systems, yes. Safety of flight, No.

So, minor cracks, engine sensor errors, software problems, yes all those happen especially in service entry. Those are not the events the press makes them out to be.

Chill! Take the B787 if you can. It's a great ride. Take the A380 too. It is a new level of comfort. They're both very safe.

minor cracks aren't safety concerns now? Software glitches can actually lead to serious problems. Some accidents are actually caused by software glitches.

But still we still have no info on what went wrong on JAL's 787 that requires a 24 hour maintenance

I am not particularly concerned about the A380 and certainly not about a maintenance issue with the 787 (for all we know, it might have been a defect causing the toilet seats to not heat up ;-) )

But regarding the last sentence ... Wha about the DC-10?

I've been found to have some loose screws myself, but I don't think I have lost any yet.
