In order to help, we'll need some more information.

    1. What, if any, airline/hotel mile/point balances do you currently have?
    2. What airport(s) would you want to fly into/out of?
    3. What type of lodging are you looking for? (luxury hotels, mid-range hotels, hostels)

I'm sure there is other information that would allow some of us to help, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

    Where are you departing from?

What cities in these countries did you want to arrive in?

    Mileage accounts and balances?

    # of Passengers?

    Class of Service?

    Dates? Flexible?

You can start with those questions.

Leaving from LAX; want to come back to LAX . Stopover both ways are ok. over 300000 points in ANA, SPG 380000, US Air 160000 AA 160000 Alaska 145000. AMX platinum 320000 points, Priority club Elite Ambassador 115000 points. I am looking for an award ticket in Business or first class for two people. 4* cat hotels. I envy your milepoint balances.

You can try for 100k SkyMiles Business class LAX-CDG-FCO-ZRH-FCO-CDG-LAX on DL.

Priority Club and Starwood are both great options for hotels.

I think that we still need additional information on where do you want to go in Italy & Switzerland. Our 3 week trip looked like this:

    Milan (arrival airport)
    Lugano (2 days)
    Venice (2 days)
    Florence (2 days)
    Palermo (2 days)
    Sorrento (3 days)
    Rome (4 days)
    London (3 days)

I think that a lot of people will tell you that this is very ambitious, but it worked well for us and is our travellin style.

That is a very impressive trip! I'm swearing and sweating just reading it. Did you use award flights?

    I'd love to hear details.

    Sorry for hijacking thread tho.

We had the flights from JAX-MXP and LHR-JAX as an award (JAX-FCO for my brother-in-law). It was a total of 8 people - all in economy. The rest of the flights (Wind Jet, Ryanair), trains, shuttle, hotels, hostels and apartments we paid for ourselves.

I had been redeeming DL tickets for years and had never had problems. This was in 2008, my first redemption after Delta had changed to a three tier reward structure. I thought that I had done well getting these tickets for 75,000 (100,000 for my BIL), now I realize that I could have saved 140,000 miles - about the number of miles we need for the Spain 2013 trip!

Why fly to London or Paris and take the train when you can fly directly into Italy and/or Switzerland on an award ticket? Also, London and Paris flights have additional possibly huge "luxury" taxes.

I don't think the OP has any DL (or SkyTeam miles). Too bad; AZ is the obvious carrier for Italy.

I was thinking that with 320K Membership Rewards + a good Delta Transfer bonus, the OP could get a huge sum of SkyMiles that would more than cover the low-level Biz award.

I don't think there's a bonus now and I would consider it a waste to transfer MR points to DL miles. Plus, it's very hard to find low BE inventory. I think the OP should try other alternatives first.

If you are flying into Paris make sure it is Orly rather than CDG which is a nightmare. I have sworn that CDG is off my list on any future flight.

It depends how you value your trips. I have never flown anything but economy and I would value 100k biz Roundtrip to Europe as solid value.

But I would try to wait for a transfer bonus, I do agree that MR need to get more than 1:1 ratio.

There are other options depending on what type of routing they want.

Neither London nor Paris are in either Italy or Switzerland. Do you want either or both of these cities on your itinerary?
