We went from being long-time Diamonds to Silvers. It stinks.

Is there an easy way to get at least Gold status?

Priority Club Insider is a good place to start...

The good thing about IHG is that you can stack their offers and rack up the points really quick. A couple of single night stays in DC and Philly netted me over 15k points earlier this year, primarily because I was signed up for multiple promos.

I am currently on my first of the 3 stays. Well, I'm home, but I checked in, got my goodies (DT cookies, water, shampoo, etc.) and will go back in the morning for breakfast :p

I had pretty much given up on HHonors (Diamond to Blue, then a Silver promo, and spent most of the bank) but this was good enough to bite at.

Get a Hilton Surpass card. You will be made Gold for the first year (some people, myself included, were given gold for two years). After that, spending $20,000 per year on the card will keep you at Gold, and spending $40,000 will make you Diamond.

I haven't checked recently, but Hilton Gold used to be given upon request as a AmEx Platinum Card benefit (for the regular charge card, not an affinity credit card). The same was true for Hyatt and SPG.

Would it be cheaper to simply do mattress runs?

Not if you are going to spend that $20,000 on various goods and services anyhow.

or see the earlier post in this thread by miles and smiles

Personally I'd be leery of crediting to HHonors until the planned roll out of multi tier awards occurs. I believe that we'll see far less opportunities to redeem for standard awards and the next tiers are highway robbery.

  14. I made Gold by sending an email to Hilton, saying that I was just upgraded to Gold with Accor Club and would thery match it. Within forty eight hours I was gold.

I was in the same boat as you, but shortly after becoming Silver as of 1 March, received a card with a challenge to get back to Diamond: 20 nights, not stays, between 1 April and 30 June. I managed to do that and I'm back at Diamond. Were you not offered a similar challenge? If not, perhaps another thing to get in touch with HHonors about.
