I recently booked a reward ticket with United but when checking my reservation the only option I see is to buy more miles, is there a way to select seats or more specifically buy economy plus seats?

    Thanks

You should be able to pick seats when viewing your reservation. If you had an economy award tickets and you are Silver or have no Elite status with United, then picking Economy+ seats will require you to pay additional $.

At the top of the reservation page does it say that the reservation is ticketed or that it is pending? If it isn't ticketed I don't think the option to choose seats shows up.

If the ticketing is done there should be a button between the flight details and the option to buy miles for selecting seats:

Right I assume I'd have to pay but I don't even see the option...

I've been able to change seats when the reservation hasn't been ticketed. I've not been able to request upgrades though until the reservation has been ticketed.

it says "Advanced seat assignments are not available on united.com for this flight. Please see an airport agent during check-in to receive your seat assignment"

    Why not??

If you prefer your vision of seats over Lufthansa's, yes. :)

Yup...and if it is a short-haul flight you won't be able to get a seat assignment until check-in.

I've seen that when the particular cabin is completely booked.

You should review your reservation periodically as there maybe cancellations or some passengers may get upgraded and free up their seats. Otherwise, you'll have to do airport checkin and maybe looking at an oversold situation.

If you can get find your LH record locator number, you can goto their website and try requesting seats on their website.

It may be in your reservation already.

When you view your reservation (not the seat part, the main page for that reservation), it'd say:

This reservation contains partner flights. View additional confirmation numbers.

For some reason, some partner flights show the second confirmation and some do not. You can always call either United or Lufthansa for the other confirmation #.

ETA: btw, they've only showed this for about a week, so it doesn't surprise me that it doesn't work for all flights yet. I just happen to be lucky. :)

Call LH. If you tell them your name, flight number, and date, they should be able to tell you the PNR. If they can't find it, knowing the ticket number can be a big help. You should carry documentation of your PNR and ticket number with you when traveling anyway. IIRC LH participates in the checkmytrip.com website, where you can check your reservation, see seat maps, etc.

The ticket number will be on the receipt, FWIW. Click on "View Receipt" when you're on the itinerary page to get the ticket number. It should start with 016, I believe.

Last month I was able to use the LH iPhone app to change seats without needing to know the record locator number. I could use my ticket number (it starts with 016) instead to log in.
